Sanjuanislander.com began at the millenium - December 1999. The name, San Juan Islander, was chosen because there was a newspaper in the 1890s to early 1900s with the same name and we liked the idea of carrying on the tradition a century later.
The purpose of this site is to provide accurate, timely news and information from a locally-owned, independent news source which adheres to journalistic standards. It is not part of any corporation. The site is owned solely by Sharon Kivisto.
It was created by Sharon Kivisto and Matt Pranger. The original design was done by Rachel Richard.
San Juan Islander is the most read news source in the county. It averages more than 5,000 readers a day. The home page has more than 250,000 page impressions each month. Readers from more than 132 countries and all 50 states have visited the site.
