More help in navigating the permitting process

Rick Taylor, left, is now working with Bob Querry at The Permit Center.

Rick Taylor's 30 years of experience in construction, including his two years as a county building inspecto/plans examiner, is being put to use. Shortly after being laid off by the county, Bob Querry invited Taylor to work with him. Querry owns The Permit Center, a full-service land use permit consulting service. "One door closed, and more than two others opened," Taylor said.

Four years ago, Querry stopped working for the county and opened The Permit Center. He helps people navigate through the county's permitting process. He provides assistance with building, septic, water, shoreline, conditional and provisional use permits, land divisions and lot line adjustments. Querry worked at the county permit center for 10 years before starting his own business.

With the addition of Taylor, the business now offers building inspections. People considering buying property with an existing building, receive a report on the building's structural integrity and its permit history.

"We've worked on both sides of the counter," Taylor said. The two men understand the intricacies of the county code and ins and outs of acquiring necessary permits.

Taylor's experience with the county provided him with training for his new job. As a county building inspector/plans examiner, he had contact with all the contractors and became familiar with the different islands.

Taylor and his wife, Heidi, had been interested in living in the islands since visiting a few years ago. Tyalor responded to an ad for a building inspector and the couple moved up from California. Heidi works at Windermere as a property manager. "Everything fell into place," Taylor said.
