Girl Scouts has growing plans for San Juan Countyposted 04/22/2008 "Dozens of girls are now participating in Girl Scouts on Lopez, Orcas, and San Juan islands under the guidance of very dedicated volunteers, " says Judi Sladky from Girl Scouts Western Washington. "As the new Area Manager for San Juan County I hope to help more girls experience the fun, adventure and skill building that comes from being a Girl Scout." Girl Scouts provides age appropriate activities for girls from kindergarten through high school. This fall a new program called “Girl Scout Journeys” will provide new opportunities and assist adult volunteers in pre-designed and planned activities. The first step to growing girl scouts is finding a few more volunteers able to serve as leaders, role models along with community members willing to share special skills and interests with local girls. Those interested in having their daughters involved in Girl Scouts or who have the passion to work as a Girl Scout volunteer, are encouraged to email judils@girlscoutsww.org Girl Scouts is open to all girls from kindergarten through high school with the mission of helping girls build courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Financial assistance is available to cover registration, uniforms and other costs. Volunteer training and parent information meetings will be scheduled in the coming months based on the interest level of Island families.
