WON'T IT BE FUN?

Many islanders have gone to the mainland to spend Easter and Spring Break with friends and relatives there. Many mainlanders have come to the island to spend Easter and Spring Break here. The mobs of shoppers in stores on Saturday bought Easter candy, colorful baskets, artificial grass, hams, lamb and other traditional foods. Thousands of eggs have been boiled and dyed for various egg hunts. Excited children anticipate their daily allotments of goodies left by the Easter Bunny. Exhausted adults look forward to some well-deserved rest.

After overeating on Easter Day, stimulated children will be sent outdoors to burn off some energy while the adults watch sports or an afternoon movie on the television. Others will take naps or remain seated around the dining room table chatting or playing a game. As the sun begins to set, mothers will announce that there are leftovers in the refrigerator for anyone who wants supper. Soon plummeting blood sugar will deplete the energy levels of even the most active youngsters, and they will sail off to dreamland without the usual bedtime bath. After a quick tidying up, the adults will get to bed, as well.

Those lucky enough to have a week of vacation, or at least a day off, will sleep in on Monday morning. Everyone else will groggily prepare themselves to face a new week of work or school. Bodies and minds will be out of sync, and it will take several pieces of chocolate and a few cups of coffee to get children and adults out the door and on their way. By the end of the week, after the treats have all been consumed and vegetables have been reintroduced to the diet, everyone will be back to normal and following their usual routines. Then we'll all start looking forward to Memorial Day, summer vacations, and our next chance to overindulge. Won't it be fun?

  • How do you indulge yourself on holidays?

  • Do you enjoy these activities?

  • Are there changes that you'd like to make next time?

  • What can you do to indulge yourself between holidays?
