LIVING LIFE TO ITS FULLEST

We've all heard the quotation from the anonymous sage who said, "Work as if you have no money. Love as if you have never been hurt. Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. And live every day as if it were your last." What better time is there than Labor Day Weekend to recognize that I've mastered the work part of this maxim, and need to move on to the other four? Does it seem a little foolish? Of course it does, but that's part of the challenge. Care to join me?

In seven years and four months of writing this column, I've proven that I know how to do the work part. Some of my musings have been better than others. A few might have been better off not seeing the light of publication. Still I've shown that I have the skills, patience, willpower, and perseverance to get the job done and think outside the box. So this week I'm not going to observe anyone, contemplate the world around me, look for hidden meaning, or even tell a story. Instead, I'm going for the gusto!

When you see me around the island this week, ask me how it's going. Or better yet, share a hug and join in a little singing and dancing, and maybe some other activities in which you'd engage if you knew it was your last day to do them. Some folks will probably think we're a little crazy, and they may be correct in their assumption. Others will likely be envious. But who cares?

Life is short, and getting shorter all the time. I plan on making sure that I don't miss any opportunities for living it to the fullest extent possible with as much balance as I can muster. The past is gone, and I can't change it. The future is definitely uncertain. So come with me and enjoy today.

  • Are you open to love?

  • When did you dance last?

  • Do you sing outside the shower?

  • How will you live life to its fullest today?
