Hey, let's get out there and get ourselves some Health Insurance! I’m thrilled about the ACA (Affordable Care Act), because I haven't had health insurance for the last 15 years. Also, the head will no longer be separated from the body by insurance companies!
Just think, we’ll be able to get our eyes and teeth checked.
I started on the web site and due to My Operator Error, I’m now using the phone. If you go to the web site, (pictured above) you’ll be able to sign up. If you go slow and be careful (which I did not) you’ll save yourself from lots of hassles, especially the incessant phone calling later.
Click on the Find and Compare Health Plans button to see choices for your new health insurance (purple arrow). To begin your Application for Coverage, click on Apply for Coverage ((yellow arrow) button.
Clicking on Apply For Coverage will take you to the screen below, your actual application to sign up for the ACA health insurance.
YIKES! This application is long and complicated. Good Luck!
Really pay attention to what you are typing. Did you know
you can use the TAB key on the left side of your keyboard to move between boxes?
Don’t forget to check the TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF USE Box at the bottom of the application.
My Big Junky Mistake
I’m so enthusiastic about the Affordable Care Act that I entered myself not once, but two times. Check out my double the trouble account:
When I click on Continue in the above window, the window below comes up:
GSOD - Gray Screen of Death!
I should have this number memorized by now: 1.855.923.4633, instead I’ve put it in my phone contacts and I call it whenever I have time. My hassles don’t bother me much because I know the new insurance will be so much better than what we all struggle with now.
Department of DUH: Oh, by the way; no one will get arrested or go to jail if they don't sign up for Affordable Care.
Telephone Call Shortcuts
There is a way to get through the Healthpathfinder telephone prompts more quickly. Call: 1.855.923.4633
Press these numbers when the recording begins (you don’t need to wait for prompts):
1 - English
2 – Spanish
1 – Individual/Family
Plan 2 – Business Plan
1 – First Time Caller
2 – Already Called
This is my method for contacting Washington Health Care Finder:
First, I go online and check if the program is up (wahealthplanfinder.org). If the website is working, I begin calling (1.855.923.4633) over and over again. Using the redial button makes it easier!
If the system is down, you’ll see this window:
At least I’m not getting this screen:
You Think We Have Problems Look What Happened to Adriana
I mean, I don’t know why people should hate me because it’s just a photo," Adriana, who is a Colombian national applying for citizenship, told ABC News. "I didn't design the website. I didn't make it fail, so I don't think they should have any reasons to hate me.
Adriana’s picture was pulled off the ACA website because of the cyber bullying she experienced. Check out this opinion piece:
Here is Adriana defending herself on ABC:
I wonder who the bullies will attack next?
The family of four?
Don't worry Adriana and family of four, I hear Ernestine has signed on to help.
This column will continue next week, it's just too complex to explain it all here.
