We’re Not Done Yet

By Triana Èlan

Well, it seems that the world stage is getting curiouser and curiouser. At the high end, the powers that be seem to think that we were so very successful in Afghanistan and Iraq that now it’s time to call for a regime change in Cuba. Cuba?! Must be Uranus retrograde in Aquarius.

California is also showing its muscle by reelecting a governor then changing its mind and electing a new governor who has been all about muscle. Now this is going to be interesting.

In the meantime, here in our islands, we’re getting tucked in for the winter and no doubt wondering what’s going to happen next.

One thing I appreciate about living here is that it is a pocket of peace from all that stuff Out There. Never mind that we have the problem of funding the ferries, the highest land prices in the state and that fool Eynman (or whatever his name is) and his followers. Peanuts compared to everything else.

A friend of mine reminded me that in a 1999 essay I had said that we were entering a trend that would last until 2004. Since I don’t keep my own essays, I’ll just have to believe me. And 2004 is right around the corner. Surprise, it’s also an election year!

Last year on Orcas I ran into a little man (I mean short) from California who bragged, "Where I come from, bigger is better." As I looked down at him from my 5’9” height, I pondered what he meant. After a listening to him go on and on about how bigger is better, he offered me some tiny lemons and limes from his bigger is better fruit trees in California. I was also bequeathed with some rotting oranges. I smiled. I still haven’t figured out how bigger is better, but then I am slow to grock some things. But this man’s new governor is big, that’s for sure.

We’re not yet done with this period of high strangeness. I am keen to see how it’s going to be a year from now as we get ready to go to the polls. Hopefully we will actually elect the next president ourselves.

None of this is new. It’s all been done before, just not as fast. And the results will always be the same, since history repeats itself, on all levels. A famous saying declares that the definition of an idiot is someone who repeats the same action, expecting different results. This applies to everything from the individual to the world. We’ll have to see what happens. It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
Follow your guts, Aries. Venus has now moved into perceptive Scorpio, the sign holding the cards for intuition. If you are in business with a partner or are otherwise involved with another person regarding property or finance, the rest of the months is yours to call the shots. If you feel something is amiss, don’t give the benefit of the doubt find out the facts.

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
Venus has moved into your solar sector of partnership, giving you a boost in morale as far as dealing with the world goes. If you’re a single Bull, your confidence will shine through. If you’re attached, your relationship has the opportunity to go to a deeper level. This is a very auspicious period for you, and a time of deepening. Listen to the signals and follow them.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
Lots for you to do and think about Gemini, and try not to blab too much. This is a time for you to take action, not talk. I know that’s hard for you, but if you spill the beans too soon regarding your plans, you’ll deplete the energy of your goal. Keep some things to yourself and stick to mentors rather than well-meaning friends regarding your next step. A bit of discernment will go a long way for you.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
The potentially difficult lessons of Saturn occupying your sign are eased by Venus and Mars both occupying fellow water signs. This softens the edges and helps you “get it” quicker. Don’t expect a whole lot in the interpersonal communications department though; Mercury is in airy Libra and that is going to butt up against your sign. Instead of trying to get your point across, use your head and wait.

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
Venus, planet governing self-worth, has flown into intense Scorpio. This may force you to give up some outmoded thinking habits regarding yourself. If you’ve been the arrogant Leo type, you’re likely to be taken down a couple of pegs. If you’re the generous type, you’ll want to tighten up in the discernment department. This is a contracted time for you where you’re forced to slow down, so hang out in your den and be happy about it.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
Jupiter in your sign continues to help you pick up some stray pieces and get yourself together. Since Jupiter has a 12 year cycle, it would be wise for you to take advantage of Jupiter’s benevolent and expansive qualities to broaden your horizons. This is a powerful time for you; get creative! Creative doesn’t mean artistic. Living creatively means exploring possibilities. Since you’re an adaptable type you can do that!

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
Now Venus, planet of self worth, has moved into your sector of finances and resources. You have the opportunity to get ahead in a way that was previously hidden. You’ll need to pull in your energy though, and focus on your true self, not what you wish to be and not what you think others think you should be. Time for a real self-assessment and regrouping. Use this time well to round out the waning year.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
Scorpio, you have so much going for you, you’ll have to work hard to screw it up. Still, it’s possible for you to sabotage yourself if you’re clinging to old internal thinking habits. Think of yourself as a crop field that is spent...the farmers of old would periodically burn their fields to cleanse and feed them for the following year. Let it burn! This is a time of cleansing and renewal for you. Do it.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
There’s enough planetary air to fuel your fire, and you may well be experiencing a time of renewal. Get rid of stuff! Stuff externally and internally. It’s going to be a long winter and you don’t want to be impeded by stuff you don’t need. This applies internally and externally. If you’ve been lazy, get off your butt. If you’re been burning the candle at both ends, slow down. Sometimes you overstep your boundaries physically and hurt yourself. Don’t do that, Archer!

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
Are you still hanging onto all that stuff from projects started and not finished? Well guess what, Cappie...it’s time to clean out! The year is closing and you want a fresh start so be honest with yourself and get rid of stuff that symbolizes false starts and good intentions not made into action. You’ll feel lots better and open the way for some cool things to happen. Your brain has been overtaxed of late. Scale back! A good mind is hard to find and we need yours!

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
With lots of feelings flying around, you might be a bit exhausted. You come from your head more than most, and if people get emotional around you, you have a hard time dealing with it. Time to take a step back and rejuvenate. The planets are certainly supporting you in this endeavor, especially Venus in contracting Scorpio. Don’t make promises you can’t keep, especially to yourself.

Pisces (February 20-March 20) Well Pisces, this is still a great time for you. You have a chance to revamp everything. Time to throw out the old stuff and make room for what’s coming. Being needed is important to you, so be sure you have a clear understanding of what’s needed in truth and avoid thinking that you know what’s needed. It’s a good thing you’re adaptable and able to flow; the mainstream needs you, so find your niche.
