A Visit From the Sisters

When I moved back to Lopez I was lucky enough to get a part time job at a great restaurant called The Love Dog (hey don’t laugh, it’s from a Rumi poem, look it up). Not only is it fun, the unexpected benefits are outstanding.
Take yesterday (Sunday, Nov. 9) for example. Here we were, doing our usual laid-back Lopez Sunday thing, and in comes Susan Osborne and some of the cast from Nuncrackers. It was great to see people from my other island (Orcas) and to be able to serve them a sumptuous lunch. Then the magic started...when the ladies were finished with their lunch, they sang to us. They sang a rousing and rowdy song about joining the convent and we sat and clapped and laughed while these extraordinarily talented ladies belted out, in perfect harmony, all the reasons why it’s good to be a nun.
Our sweet restaurant enjoyed the patronage of the play-goers and cast, the air was filled with a festiveness and happiness that is the best of these islands.
Yes, I believe in magic.
Aries (March 21 - April 20):
Go, Aries, go!!! Although Saturn is being very stern about some things in your life, Mercury and Venus in friendly Sagittarius lighten your load now on a daily basis. Your communication skills are sharp and hopefully insightful in terms of the Big Picture. You have the ability to back off in terms of being short sighted now, so use it! Be wise, not impulsive. You should be seeing some financial improvements too!
Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
Taurus how much fun are you capable of having? Get rid of any dark clouds that have been hanging over you and make yourself available to get bit by the Fun Bug! Sometimes a good laugh sustained over a few hours with good company gets yourself out of your own way long enough to solve a problem with no mental effort on your part. This is one of those times. Don’t take yourself so seriously!
Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
Well now that you’ve all turned on me and asked for a reality check this week (just kidding), here we gooooo! Friendly terms still prevail for you, so have fun and laugh often. Don’t think too much, because your head will get everything all set up for an expectation and you know how that goes! Your mind likes to learn and to know, so if you can let go of always having to be right, you might actually enjoy yourself even more! Take a day and pretend you don’t know anything. Ha!
Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
Jupiter’s positive influence on Saturn brings some great things to you now, but they may come disguised as a hassle of some sort. Don’t get your knickers in a knot over it, just watch and be delighted with the outcome. Stay out of your way, Moonchild! Now that the hubbub of summer is finished and you have a lot of loose ends to tie up, quit making up distractions and clear the decks. And crank up the stereo while you’re at it!
Leo (July 23 - August 22):
Well sometimes it just isn’t good enough, is it. Don’t fret, Leo, it’s only your harsh judgment of yourself. Knock it off! The kinks are getting worked out and you have a chance for some quality social time during the next couple of weeks, so take it! Mercury flies into your friendly fellow fire sign of Sagittarius on Thursday, setting you up for some good times that you really should take advantage of.
Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
Sometimes you’re just too practical, but your whimsical side saves you every time. In spite of your self-nurtured faults, you are lovable and cute, reliable and loyal. Admittedly, you don’t like coloring outside the lines too much, but you don’t have to because you live outside the lines anyway. That conventional veneer is a good disguise! Just don’t take it too seriously. Now put up some really impractical things (eye candy) in your room. Now!
Libra (September 23 - October 22):
Being a sign of a dualistic nature, you are either overwhelmed or have nothing going on at all. We have to watch you Libras...when you get bored you get very creative and then you create a "situation." If you’re overwhelmed, delegate (only to reliable people, if there is such a thing anymore). If you’re bored, take a little trip somewhere that has interesting things to look at and ponder. A stagnant mind is a dangerous thing and being the one who is anxious to please, you don’t want to be dangerous!
Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
Your self esteem rises this month as Mercury and Venus occupy Sagittarius in your sector of resources and self-worth. If something’s been bothering you, maybe you’ve been creating your own problem by burying yourself in what "should be" rather than seeing "what is." You are very opinionated, and shouldn’t close your mind so tight it has to be pried open. That wears your friends out and they don’t come round anymore. Wear some bright colors and get your hair done.
Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
Archer, your spirits are boosted now for the first time in a long time. And for no real reason! What is this?! This month is a slow one, so take advantage and get things done that you’ve been putting off. Setting something important aside for fun is a good thing, but in moderation. Balance work and play, and set your sights on next year. You like the Big Picture, so draw it out while you have the time.
Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
Are you ever going to make up your mind?! Ha! Sometimes you can get yourself into such a dither you lose track of the issue! Well, never mind. If you’re happy, you don’t have to worry about being right. Jupiter continues to support you in the area of higher education, long distance travel, spirituality and legal issues. If you’ve run into a snag, relax your mind so that the solution can gain entrance. Solutions don’t like Fort Knox type doors.
Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Your ruler Uranus has now gone direct in your sign, saying goodbye to you for the rest of your life. Whew. What a ride! The danger of Uranus returning to your sign in retrograde is that you might be compelled to repeat a grand mistake; if you truly learned something, you’ll have the wherewithal to avoid an old pattern. This is a time for changeworthy behaviors that will enrich your inner life, so go for it and put the ghosts to rest.
Pisces (February 20-March 20) If you try to figure it out, it will be unfailingly elusive. How’s that for a deep thought? Human emotions and thoughts are dynamic, but the patterns we have established are static, and the movement of thought and emotion is restricted. Take the time to watch your thoughts and reactions. Don’t talk about them, just do it for yourself and with yourself. Become your own best company; there’s a whole world untapped inside of you. Find out about it!
