This week's Horoscope Column

The Second House

By Triana Èlan

December 1 - 7 , 2003

The second House (sector) in the birth chart is ruled by Taurus. Since Venus rules Taurus, Venus also rules the second House. This House governs things that are owned, things that you are born into, and your sense of self worth. The sign this house falls under in your personal chart will tell how you gauge your own worth and what is really important to you. Any planets occupying the second House will add extra emphasis to these matters.

Talents, inheritance, income level growing up, and how you measure your worth all stem from the second House and its planets. If the planets in the second house are afflicted (in a disharmonious aspect to other planets), you have to work harder to earn what you think you are worth and may require assistance. An afflicted second House can also signify difficulties handling or stewarding money and other assets.

Self worth is a big issue for most of us, and the second House holds the secrets to how we learned to value ourselves and by whom. Women are especially receptive to and influenced by the second House and its activities.

Where the first House governs our self image, the second House determines how we feel about our self image. Self image is often what we think we are made of; self worth shows what we really are made of. The second house is, truly, the house of character and inner strength.

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
Now we move into a more basic and earthy time for you, Aries...one by one, several planets will be moving into Capricorn this month, bringing issues of family, home and hearth, and your own learning process into focus. By the time Christmas rolls around, you’ll find some surprising information about yourself and your immediately family coming up. In the meantime, do some soul searching, decision making. Your choices are what set up your future, one choice at a time. These choices will ultimately effect your career environment.

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
This week begins a slow inner planet march into your fellow earth sign of Capricorn, signaling some new beginnings for you in the area of what kind of career move you want. If you’ve been lacking the energy or drive to move forward, this month’s influences will give you some impetus. This month holds some lovely events for you, so enjoy every moment and stay away from judging or jumping to conclusions.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
As this month progresses, you’re likely to be feeling withdrawn; the sun is as far away from your sign as it can get, so if you find your energy flagging, it’s real. Take it slow and don’t make any promises you can’t keep. Other than these personal things, your good company is in demand! Your popularity increases, so choose your social commitments carefully. If others are asking you to give too much, pull back. You don’t always have to say yes! They’ll love you anyway because you’re soooooooo naturally cute!

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
The month of December is going to see the bases loaded in your opposite sign of Capricorn, highlighting relationship issues. If you’re already in relationship, it’s likely you and your sweetie will get an idea to launch a new venture. If you’re a single Moonchild and searching for love, this month holds a lot of promise for you; but you have to actually leave your house! Mars in your fellow water sign of Pisces is ending its long occupation of that sign so you’ll get a real boost of energy just in time for holiday festivities. Go! Make some magic!

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
If you get any busier you’re going to blow a gasket! How many people can you be all at once?? Now listen, Leo...a very heavy Capricorn influence is going to dominate this month, and this will put the spurs to you to get real and look twice at a few things. You only have so much energy and now you need to ask for some time and attention for yourself. Do that and the Holiday season will shine for you. If you don’t, you may get the sniffles and miss all the fun!

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
As we move into the lat month of the year, we see several planets marching into Capricorn, the One In Charge. This will take an enormous amount of weight off of you, if you have the good sense to delegate. So what if it isn’t done the way you’d do it? You can always shore up the details later...don’t fret. Just keep smiling and feeding people. You do have the idea that if you don’t do it, it isn’t done right...well don’t ruin your own party with that attitude, sweetie.

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
You are longing for things of the past, moments that made you all warm and fuzzy inside. This means you need to spend some time alone and don’t look to others to create it for you. You are the owner of those feelings, so you are the only one that knows what you need. Make it happen! December sees an increase of planets occupying Capricorn, which is just as bossy as you are (yes, you!); if you don’t keep yourself on your rails, you may get into protocol issues. We need all the magic we can get, so make some and smile!

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
Some of your plans may be overturned due to the miscommunication with others that can occur this time of year. Don’t get bent out of shape about it; you might want to stick with the tried-and-true this year during the holiday season. Mars, which has traveled for an abominably long time in Pisces, moves into its own sign of Aries at mid-month, so you’re going to get a surge of energy and confidence! Use it wisely and give some loved ones some good surprises.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
So now we move into your time of the year, and your energy level is heightened. Archer, pay attention to your body! You do have a tendency to push yourself too hard (when you’re not being a total sloth, that is), so be sure you rest and regroup. Your company will be in demand and of course there are birthday parties to be had so celebrate yourself to the max. Without you there would be no adventure.

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
This month sees lots of planets eyeing your sign to move into, so you may be tempted to put yourself under pressure to perform. Ah, don’t. Why bother...you know who you are and don’t need to prove anything to anybody. You will likely be wanting to start some new things, but make new projects few...you have some loose ends to tie up! Of course that’s no fun. But you’ll feel so much better! Get a new rug, will ya? A drab floor or carpet isn’t any fun to walk on.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Holy cow, this month packs a whallop for you! A movement of several planets into earthy Capricorn brings some issues of your past into sharp focus (shall we say "in your face?"). This is going to be a quirky holiday season peppered with many unexpected events, so stay flexible and let someone else take charge of being the host. This month you’re not in control, Life is. If your choices have been wise, no problem. If impulse has been the driving force for you, well...

Pisces (February 20-March 20) So Pisces, this is shaping up to be a very nice month for you; you’ll be able to get an awful lot done without feeling like you’ve expended too much effort. Isn’t it nice to surprise yourself? At mid month, Mars leaves your sign after an extraordinary length of time, so you’ll be infused with some new ideas for next year as we wind it up and try to get the 21st Century on track according to us, of course).
