Merry Christmas To All My Readers!
The Fifth House

By Triana Èlan

December 22-28, 2003

Just in time for Christmas, we now turn to the fifth House of the birth chart. This House is the sector that governs self expression. It is ruled by Leo and therefore by the Sun, signifying that here is where we find our passion. The sign that this House falls under in the personal horoscope reveals where our passion lies, and how we deal with it.

This is also the House of love affairs and children (well one often produces the other, doesn’t it?). Since passion is such a misunderstood word, let me clarify what it means to me: It means what rocks your soul. It could be music, art, machinery, technology, sex, alcohol, food, reading, education....the list goes on.

This is the House in which we have an opportunity to shine brightly from within. Usually people who are ignited from within have their Sun in the fifth House. Mars in the fifth House can depict an individual who will stop at nothing to "get there."

A well aspected fifth House will usually represent a naturally creative person, one who can balance work with a creative undertaking. An afflicted fifth House will reveal a struggle and frustration in the area of creative self expression.

This House is often misinterpreted, for being “creative” doesn’t necessarily mean one is an artist. Creative living is very different from the limited stereotype. The fifth House will reveal how well you think on your feet, how you feel comfortable telling the world who you are. As we mature and change, the fifth House hones itself to a fine shine.

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
The New Moon in Capricorn brings an extra sparkle of magic to your domain; this is the Big Week, you’ve been feeling hassled, and now you get to get to the fun stuff! At least for a couple of days or so. The rest of the weekend will be spend recovering and playing with your new toys. Mars, your Ruler, has settled happily into your sign and is singing away with the big outer planets, so you’re set!

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
The New Moon in earthy Capricorn doesn’t necessarily ground you, but it does give you an extra boost right when you need it. As we round up the year, you have news regarding property or building or a remodel that has you excited. Keep going with it! Very likely by this time next year you’ll be much more settled; know that and celebrate this Christmas with extra panache!

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
All that sparkles and twinkles attracts you any time of the year, but especially now as times get really festive! As good will and merriment pervade the community, join in as much as you can and you’ll find extra energy rather than being drained. If you’re a solo twin this Christmas, start a new tradition for yourself. You do well with structure, even at the best of times. Know that you never walk alone.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
The week begins with a New Moon in your opposite side of Capricorn, clearing the way for you to reach a depth that you enjoy and feel comfortable with. You don’t do traveling well during the Holidays...if you’re not at your own home, you’re at someone else’s...hotels or impersonal places are out of the question for you! Enjoy all you’ve created, love your people, and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
A New Moon in Capricorn propels us toward Christmas and fiery Mars is settled in energetic Aries, giving you the energy you need to get everything done. Well, let’s admit...you’re going to have to delegate! Let others do a few things for you, and be happy that they want to. Just be happy, period...you’re here! Enjoy all the sparkles and singing and all that this season brings out in us.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
It’s a wonderful time of the year...really! Don’t fuss over the little things that are left undone or the cake you burnt or the bounced check. Oops...everybody makes mistakes and you’re allowed. Even if you’re all thumbs at wrapping, wrap that special thing for that special someone anyway...that you went to the effort will warm their heart much more than perfection. Sit back, have a ‘nog, and end the year quietly within yourself.

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
Here we goooooooooo! This is the week, you’re the one, and you’re surrounded by people who love you and care for you, even if you’re not related! This is a quirky time of the year, so just enjoy the quirks and the spats and the fuss and let the harmony emerge on its own. Be a happy observer, an enthusiastic participant, and enjoy whatever show you find yourself involved with. Lovely Venus flies into your fellow air sign of Aquarius just in time to put you at ease. Hmmmm....there really is a Santa!

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
Although you are a water sign, you used to be Air. Before that you were Fire. No wonder you fit in so many places unobtrusively! Folks are drawn to you now, so receive them warmly and allow your inner fire to blaze contentedly. Smile at your people, even the ones you don’t like. You have the ability to draw many things out of others, so draw out the best and the brightest.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
Here we go! Santa’s on his way, you’ve been doing things like crazy, and you’re almost ready to call it a year. Mars in impulsive Aries ignites your fun side, Venus in Aquarius inspires your quirky side, and you’re ignoring the stodgy ones. Good for you! This looks to be a great Christmas, and you deserve it. Make as much merry as you can, don’t forget to feed the eight tiny reindeer, and get some rest before the big day so you can fully enjoy it.

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
The New Moon in your sign gives you an extra boost, and you’re setting yourself up to have a happy and a merry week! Don’t worry about all those little bits and pieces that didn’t get done...when do they ever, any time of the year?! If you weren’t discombobulated at some level, you wouldn’t be a quirky Capricorn! Besides, if we ever wait until we’re ready, nothing gets done at all...put your feet up and have a wonderful Christmas.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Love it or hate it, it’s here! Fortunately, Venus slides into your sign this week, giving you an extra dose of self worth and a warm feeling inside that almost nothing can take away. Uranus, your Ruler, is nearly finished with your sign after a tumultuous seven years; at the end of the month it leaves your sign and all the chaos behind; hopefully you haven’t become so used to chaos that you’re impulsively creating it! If you say you’re going to do something, do it...otherwise you’ll find a lump of coal in your stocking!

Pisces (February 20-March 20) Okay so ya wanna just make everybody see it the way you do...they won’t. Give it up and just have fun! That’s what this time of year is for, and being a Mutable sign, you can adapt to any level....just don’t hang around the low ones too much or you’ll cry. Balance yourself this week, socialize a bit, be alone a bit, talk a bit and listen a bit. Get some new ideas for yourself and write a lot. It’s been a heck of a year!
