What’s Up For 2004?
By Triana Èlan
December 29 - January 4
We’ll take a break from the Houses and look at the New Year and what it could bring.
In Chinese astrology, January 22, 2004 is the Chinese New Year (the day of the New Moon in Aquarius). 2004 is the Year Of the Metal Monkey. We will see many new innovations in financial recovery in ‘04, not all of them honest. The Monkey is clever and quick, usually loyal but not always honest. Although intelligent and quick witted, the Monkey character’s downfall is instant gratification with little regard for the long run. The last Monkey year was 1992, when we saw the balance of power being shifted politically. We’re swinging around again, but this time the emphasis will be on the economy.
I like to use Chinese astrology for a general overtone of a year, since it is an accurate, lunar-based system that’s been in place for about five thousand years.
A major astrological event has just taken place, and this is Uranus changing signs from Aquarius into Pisces, marking a whole new cycle. Uranus changes signs every seven years, and now we move from an emphasis on the explosion/implosion of “Dot Com” business to the tried and true which deserve loyalty and participation rather than the greed-based “get rich quick” schemes.
We will see some major activity economically and politically or in regard to religion around May or early summer; this event (or series of events) will likely create an emotional uproar for many people; Uranus rules the day and it is an explosive planet, governing sudden changes. With Uranus in Pisces, the sign ruling religion, liberalism, and other nebulous (subjective) systems, it’s likely that we will see some major shifting of religious values and spiritual practices in the days to come. This will likely be slow in coming about since the trend lasts seven years.
Pisces is also a water sign, which rules emotions. One would be wise to view 2004 with a degree of healthy skepticism as we will likely be promised things that can’t be delivered. The good side to this is community-building. Pisces is very much a community oriented sign; an increase in charity spending and nonprofit activity is likely.
2004 will be a very different year than what we’ve become accustomed to. Individualism will begin to fade away as people see that community is where the real gold is.

Aries (March 21 - April 20): Well, it’s been a year of progress for you, now you get to reap the benefits of your hard work in the new year. On January 1, the Moon will be in profit oriented Taurus, setting you up to have a profitable year if you stay on course. As we end a year of conflict, angst, and change you will be able to forge a new path for yourself and others in an endeavor that really means something to you. Stay healthy!

Taurus (April 21 - May 20): The new year is going to begin with the moon in your own sign, and this will bring about a whole new sense of self. It will be your year to find those inner resources that will carry you into new circumstances that you have created yourself. Mighty Uranus, who brings about sudden changes (like them or not) has now left your nemesis Aquarius and is settling into compassionate Pisces for the next seven years or so. Whew! You will be able to breathe easier in the new year.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20): The New Year begins on a practical note for you as you’re likely to be finding yourself with a flurry of new ideas and projects that you really want to see happen! With Uranus now settling into Pisces, a water sign, you’ll be able to grab the depths you need to hone your intuition rather than relying so much on your head. If you’re a writer, musician or teacher, you’ll find new avenues of expression.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22): 2004 begins an incredible time for you; Uranus has moved out of unpredictable Aquarius into Pisces, where it will remain for about seven years. This will find you in the company of others who are more laid back and less sharp around the edges. Your year will likely be filled with new surprises, the kind you like! Keep a journal in ‘04, as it will be another extraordinary year with sweeping ideals and many changes.

Leo (July 23 - August 22): The New Year begins with Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius...this is not necessarily a bad thing, since it is in a sign compatible with your fiery self. The biggest news is that mighty Uranus has moved out of your opposite sign of Aquarius and into emotional Pisces. Watch for signs of heightened intuition in the new year, as well as a potential property purchase or business enterprise with someone close.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22): Since the planet of communication and travel, Mercury, is retrograde in Sagittarius you might see some hiccups in plans and other silly things going awry as we ring in the New Year. Don’t take that as a bad omen, though...mighty Uranus has now moved into your opposite sign of Pisces, where it will remain for about seven years. This heightens your sense of teamwork and cooperation, setting you up for a big change of attitude!

Libra (September 23 - October 22): The new year rings in with a clang for you to watch your health! You may be planning to work out, take up a sport of form of exercise that you like. This will be your year to take action rather than think about it, and you’ll actually be able to stick with it! A better sense of balance between heart and head will be yours, as you now move into a time of honing your senses and reflect on where you’ve been and where you want to go from here.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22): 2004 sees mighty Uranus, the planet of sudden changes, settling into Pisces, your fellow water sign. Pisces is a sign that finds its own level and doesn’t really get boundaries, so you’re in for some adventures! We begin the new year with the Moon in your opposite sign of Taurus; if you’re single, ‘04 is a likely year for you to find a mate if you’re single. A change of career is also likely for you in the new year, so do your research!

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20): As you collapse after the Holidays and flop down on the couch with the remote, know that a real change is occurring in the heavens...Uranus has left Aquarius forever and is now in Pisces, where it will be for seven years. It’s likely that the new year will see your services in demand, as others will have a harder time making up their minds. Your decisiveness will come in handy! But for now, rest. You’re gonna need it!

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19): It’s your birthday time, so make the most of it! ‘04 sees Uranus settled in Pisces, having left its own sign of unpredicable Aquarius where it’s been for the past seven years. A new cycle truly begins, and your sense of rightness and attention to details will be needed as we move into indecisive times. Jumping to conclusions will be a thing of the past. You’ll find yourself mellowing out, being less hard on yourself. Good for you!

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19): Well, guess what, Uranus has now left your sign and has moved into mellow Pisces, where it will remain for the next seven years. This signifies enormous changes for you, especially in the area of self worth and your sense of spirituality. Venus in your sign has you ringing the new year in with a feeling of a job well done. Your intuition will lead you now, and as the progressive new years come, you’ll have a chance to hone it.

Pisces (February 20-March 20) 2004 begins with mighty Uranus in your own sign, where it will remain for seven years. This is your time, Pisces! What does it mean? It means that beginning this year you’re going to be getting very, very real about what you truly want. You’ll find that events will come around almost as fast as you can think them, so get used to moving faster. But not right now. For right now, get some rest. Mellow out. Breathe. And fill yourself with goodness.
