The Seventh House
By Triana Èlan
January 12-18, 2004
Where the first six Houses of the birth chart refer to Being, the last six Houses refer to Participating. The first House of participation, then is the seventh. Here we find ourselves reaching out to others in a significant way. A thumbnail sketch of this House is "The Other."
Here I should explain that the Houses work in opposition to each other. The seventh House is directly opposite the first House; the first House is the Self, the seventh being the Other, Self reaching out to a larger whole.
This is often called the House of Marriage and Partnerships, and in general, the seventh House reflects relationships that are critical and are outside the family. If one’s Saturn and/or Moon is found in this House, it could indicate that the parents (Saturn=Father, Moon=Mother) have a significant impact on the types of relationships formed. Many hard lessons are to be had if either of these planets fall in the seventh House in the birth chart.
The cusp of the seventh House is called the Descendant (where the cusp of the first House is the Ascendant, or Rising). It is ruled by Libra and Venus. Now we get into the balancing act of cooperation with another who is external to the family. The sign that falls on the cusp of the seventh House will usually determine what kinds of people one will attract as potential partners/spouses. Very often, if the seventh House falls under a water sign and most especially Pisces, it could mean an attraction to/from others suffering substance abuse. This has been fairly consistent in my experience of chart reading.
Being a House ruled by Venus, the seventh is also a hallmark of self-worth...how we are treated determines our sense of well being. The balance is to teach others how to treat us. This is where enormous growth must take place and tremendous transformations occur as we learn about ourselves in relation to others.

Aries (March 21 - April 20): You’re now moving into a phase where you’ll be taking stock of all you’ve accomplished as Venus joins Uranus in your sector of Endings and New Beginnings. As you sum yourself up and events unfold that have you gaining insight into your choices and the motivations behind them, watch for opportunities to solidify your integrity. Answers will be right there, almost in your face!

Taurus (April 21 - May 20): As Venus makes her transition from Aquarius into Pisces, she blows kisses to chaotic Uranus who is already there. This is good news for you, especially in terms of friendships and the realization of your hopes and dreams. When you least expect it, people who have exactly what you need will show up. Wow. This is a very good thing. You get to imbibe in the goodness of camaraderie!

Gemini (May 21 - June 20): Venus slides into Pisces this week, Twin, joining mighty Uranus. This means a sharp longing to change career or seek a promotion. You want something more meaningful to you as a person, and this would be the tie to seek it. Now that Mercury is solidly direct, get moving! You’ll have an advantage in the coming weeks. Don’t get impatient. Come from a deeper level and trust the bigger picture.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22): As Venus, planet of self-worth, joins Uranus in Aquarius this week, you may be longing for spiritual food...groups don’t really float your boat, so you might find some books or videos or audio books to fire your rockets. This period of time will provide much food for thought and a bit of soul searching. Just go with it, the Path never hurts if your intention is pure.

Leo (July 23 - August 22): Now we move on to something you can really sink your fangs into...Venus moves from your opposite sign of Aquarius and joins Uranus in Pisces, igniting your sector of shared assets. Time to draw in others to help you get where you want to go! If you’re in relationship, your partner could be the inspiration for you. New and different ideas come up for you as you reach to a new level. This is a very auspicious time for you; use it wisely!

Virgo (August 23 - September 22): Venus joins Uranus in your opposite sign of Pisces, and this indicates a reaching out on your part. Since you tend to do it yourself or it doesn’t get done right, you’re going to have to bring in others now and just relax about it. Sometimes new and different ideas are better than your own, enhancing what it is you’re trying to do. Out of the rut with you and on to an adventure!

Libra (September 23 - October 22): Your Ruler Venus moves into Pisces now, and sidles up to mighty Uranus. This puts an emphasis on a total revelation about yourself, where you’ve been, and where you’re going. Time for an internal inventory! Maybe a Dr. Phil book is in order for you as you reassess your position and purpose. This would be a good time to consult others who have more experience than you do in the area of your goal. Integrity is the keyword here.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22): Now we see Two planets in the early degrees of Pisces; Venus and Uranus. Venus will travel through in a few weeks, Uranus will take seven years. Since Venus is an inner planet, events of a more immediate nature will surface for you in the area of self expression. Your might be longing for a soul mate or yearning to engage in the arts...go for it! This is a good time to match yourself up with something that suits you and has staying power, as well as breadth and depth.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20): Okay so you didn’t rest. One can try, but resting is not yur forte. Since your financial situation is hit and miss, stash some money away and refrain from impulse buying. Your generosity can outdo your bank account sometimes, and others would rather have your company and attention anyway (and if they’d rather have your money, ditch them). With Venus joining Uranus in watery Pisces, your focus settles on your home environment. No small wonder with the storm that just passed through...go fix stuff!

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19): No doubt about it, you are a deep thinker. A strategist. Life is often like a chess game for you, and if you’re going to play, you intend to win! As Venus joins Uranus in Pisces, your sector of short journeys and family visits is activated. There could be a family matter that needs to be seen to, and you’re the one to do it. This trend will last for about three weeks, so stay alert!

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19): As Venus leaves your sign, joining Uranus (your Ruler) in Pisces, issues of money come up as you evaluate your financial situation. It may be time to pull in the purse strings and go without a few items that are superfluous. Waah. This trend also sees you reevaluating your motives and sense of your own worth, on a deep level. Use this time well to get real about your feelings and try to stay away from analyzing. Just feel stuff. It won’t kill ya!

Pisces (February 20-March 20): Venus sails into your sign this week, joining Uranus. Wow, are you eve in for a time of revelation! Pay attention to the signs and patterns of your thoughts and behaviors and choices...there is much to be gleaned in the growth department there. Try not to get too self-absorbed, though...it’s not all about you, it’s all about your choices. Look for defining moments as you move forward and take stock of the choices you made in the past that got you to where you are now.
