The Eighth House

By Triana Èlan

January 19 - 25, 2004

The traditional astrologers called the eighth House the House of Death and Regeneration, because it is ruled by Scorpio. In the last sixty years or so, this House has evolved to embrace intimacy and what is shared. So where is the death and regeneration? It’s still there: if you are an adult, you have methods of dealing with life and yourself, little rituals that are exclusively yours. Once someone else enters your life though, you die to your own exclusive ways in order to incorporate that other person. This goes for intimate relationships as well as business partnerships and even groups.

In the eighth House we find the results of coming together, the newness and fresh ideas and identities that emerge from coming together. In a sense, the eighth House signifies a continuance of the seventh House; it regards results of cooperation.

Sometimes the eighth House is called the House of Karma; in this definition, it can be thought that no one is without a past, and what goes around comes around. What we learn in each and every relationship in our lives be it school, love, friendships or business endeavors, we are shaped and honed by others. The eighth House is where the fruition of our past takes shape in the present.

The eighth House is opposite to the second House. The second House is "What Is Owned." The eighth House is, in general, "What Is Shared." What we bring to the table in any given moment is the domain of this House and the sign it falls under in the birth chart indicates what others will come to expect of us, therefore continually reshaping us and encouraging adaptation and growth on our part.

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
Wednesday’s New Moon in electric Aquarius falls in your sector of friendships...during the next month you might meet some new people who will support your goals, while other people fall away. In other areas, Mars, your Ruler, remains in your sign, igniting your energy level and carrying you through your tasks with ease. Keep moving forward and smile!

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
You are dogged and determined to stick to your word. Unfortunately, others don’t live this way and you are frustrated by those who don’t see your point of view. Well, that’s life....don’t take it personally. The New Moon in Aquarius brings an end to past frustrations and you see your career or work situation in a new light; watch for a sudden development that could be in your favor.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
Stoke your inner fires now, because soon Jupiter and Pluto will come to blows and it could adversely affect your significant relationships. Stresses relating to others could lead you to do something impulsive that might have adverse consequences in the long term. Don’t mess around with other people’s feelings! Get very clear about what you really want and use a direct approach. The New Moon on Wednesday will help you get the clarity you need.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
Now we move into an interesting time as benevolent Jupiter in Virgo comes to odds with Pluto in Sagittarius. You can either jump in with both feet and participate or watch from the sidelines. In any case, you may be called in to mediate a conflict and you’ll need to be objective. This planetary conflict will prove to be transformative since it involves Jupiter and Pluto and will ring the bells in your sectors of family (siblings especially) and health.

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
As the New Moon in Aquarius ignites your sector of marriage and partnerships, you gain insights about your spouse/sweetheart. A greater understanding has the chance to emerge because of it. An enormous aspect between Jupiter and Pluto also affects you in the long term, in your sectors of finances and self expression. A hobby may turn into a financial venture, or you may find yourself switching gears and going for what you really want to do for a living. This is a very productive time for you!

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
Jupiter in your sign butts heads with Pluto in Sagittarius. This has the capacity to kick you in the drawers in a big way! Enough of the martyr stuff, it’s time for you to stake your claim. This trend will force you to get real over time, boosting you to a new level of consciousness. It may not be easy but it will be worth it! This is a time of gaining inner strength and a renewed sense of resolve.

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
The New Moon in Aquarius on Wednesday erases your doubts in an emotional situation, revealing the true situation underneath. This will put you at ease and settle your mind enough to give you clarity to know how to proceed. If you’re an artist, look for new avenues of expression and mediums to use. Go wild!

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
Wednesday’s New Moon in your sign serves to erase any doubts you’ve had, and it also reveals the underpinnings of your emotional motives. You may feel a little shaky, but it will pass. The bigger picture sees Jupiter and Pluto squaring up in your sectors of finances and friendships....if you’ve been giving out money to someone, you’ll see that you need to cut them off. If you’re in a business venture, take it to the next level and be sure that the bottom line gets signed.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
Your Ruler Jupiter now moves up against Pluto, who is in your sign. Wow! Those of you born close to mid December are undergoing a major shift of perspective...you are overthrowing past protocol and are moving to the ground that is truer to your heart. This is a life altering time for you so take each day with care and thought. A time of enormous expansion is yours for the taking, so take it!

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
The New Moon in Aquarius on Wednesday gives you a different perspective about your finances and how you’ve been spending (or pinching) your pennies. Looks like a new piece of technology is in order to be purchased, and this will make your life much easier. Why make things harder for yourself? You’re not one to jump on a bandwagon but what you’re considering has potential, so look again!

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Wednesday’s New Moon in your sign surprises you, as you move into your birthday time. An insight, a revelation, a surprise comes your way that shows you what is really happening inside of you. Your mind is a fine one as long as you don’t stay in it. Don’t make any assumptions...ask others where they are coming from rather than relying on your own assessments. You’ll find a whole new world to explore!

Pisces (February 20-March 20): With both Venus and Uranus in your sign, you’re really getting it from all sides! And look, there goes Jupiter in Virgo squaring up with Pluto in Sagittarius to throw some real spice into the mix! Looks like a major change in your sectors of relationship and career are about to occur, if they’re not already happening. This aspect between these two planets has long reaching effects, and these processes won’t happen overnight. Take it one step at a time to new heights! Oh...and enjoy the scenery!
