Stay Brave, People
By Triana Èlan
As I write this, the Super Bowl is on, the ads are either great or completely beyond my comprehension (that’s what island life will do, I guess), and America is getting a break from the war drums beating.
And while I am sitting here at my computer writing this, fifty Europeans are on their way to Baghdad in buses. They are going to act as human shields for the Iraqi citizens in the event of a war. Amazing.
I’m flabbergasted at the effort of people to avert this war. This is courage, and there is safety in numbers, to a point.
There are many different approaches The People are taking to avert this war. While peace may be an unattainable goal in reality, the aversion of a war will herald a new age of patriotism. This is completely in line with Uranus’ move from its seven year sojourn in rebellious Aquarius and into compassionate Pisces. Uranus is ending its occupation of the sign it rules.
Today’s patriotism is very different from before. In our parents’ time (W.W.II for us Boomers), the U.S. refrained from a war until Pearl Harbor was attacked. Until we were hit on our own turf, it was "Europe's War." Then we were attacked by an enemy we could identify and go after directly.
Now we’re witnessing a different kind of patriotism. This new brand isn't blind. It doesn't say, “My President says this so it’s right.” No. This new brand is saying, “What’s happening here is NOT what America is about, we don’t care what the President says.”
Now, that’s really cool. It’s a new day, we have new tools, new tactics, and some common wisdom. I have faith in the human race. I am also delighted at the display of true patriotism which is indicating a more mature America. We’ll see what happens.
In the meantime, I am personally declaring 2003 The People’s Year.

Aries (March 21 - April 20): You’re not moving ahead as fast as you’d like to, but it’s not your fault; bigger events are blocking your progress. Fill in the time gaps learning a new skill or hobby. These times are very unstable and you’re good at thinking on your feet. Now you need to expand your own mental horizons and think bigger.

Taurus (April 21 - May 20): The New Moon in electric Aquarius gives you chance to clear out a major stumbling block beginning on the weekend. Clear out the mental clutter, quit making excuses, minimize distractions, and bolt ahead! No, I didn’t say slog. I said bolt. Pick up that pace, Taurus!

Gemini (May 21 - June 20): The New Moon in Aquarius on Saturday strikes in your sector of travel, education and legal matters. There may be some unexpected funds arriving through a settlement or an inheritance. February looks to be a very creative and inspiring month for you. Turn that mental energy into action!

Cancer (June 21 - July 22): Let’s face it, the planets haven't exactly bee doing you any favors if you’re quivering in fear. These days are not about fear. You’re likely to gain more favor by shoring up your courage and inner strength. Although it’s tempting to gossip, it’s best not to. There are too many rumors going around the world right now and the consequences are dire. Consider that in your personal life.

Leo (July 23 - August 22): Your sign is either blasting ahead or stalled out. This is a period of extremes and excesses. Now listen, Leo, you need to find a middle path somewhere! Many more corners on two wheels and you’ll hit a ditch. You get really cross when that happens and chase all your friends away with your roars of self-pity. Slow down!

Virgo (August 23 - September 22): Watch your health and keep a good attitude, Virgo. You poor thing, you’re the hardest working sign in the Zodiac, always willing to go the distance. You work twice as hard to get half as far. Know why? Well, it has to do with integrity. You want it done right, so you usually do it yourself. Accept some help this week and do it with good cheer.

Libra (September 23 - October 22): Well are you busy enough? You’re meeting yourself coming and going. The tide is turning, and you’re gaining a sense of perspective and purpose. There still isn’t enough of the element of Earth in the heavens to help you, though. But the best advice for all air signs now, including yours is, watch your words. Words are potent now; choose yours carefully.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22): Hassles and inconveniences and people who just don’t get it seem to be surrounding you. Well, it may intensify this weekend, with the New Moon in Aquarius. Be careful where you aim your anger or energy. This is a time of extreme discernment and you don’t want to burn any bridges. Brush up on your social skills, but also reach deep into your own wellspring of truth.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20): You’re really having a hard time gaining focus, but financially things are getting ready to break for you. Stay on task and refrain from getting overwhelmed. If you remain focused, unwavering in your resolve, success is yours. Don’t let up and stay disciplined (or get disciplined!).

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19): Finances leap to the fore now, and it could be that a miscalculation has you fretting over taxes. Yech. Well listen, don’t take it out on everybody around you, it’s not their fault (unless they’re the one who made the mistake). Circumstances not entirely under your control have you in a very interesting situation now. You may as well enjoy it!

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19): Your annual New Moon occurs on Saturday, bringing about a sense of resolve and the opening for righting some wrongs and learning some new things about yourself. With a crowd of planets in your sign now, you’re no doubt feeling the pressure. Being a mental sign you might paralyze yourself with analysis. Well, try not to. When you feel frozen, move about.

Pisces (February 20-March 20) Compassion is your specialty, Pisces, but be careful who you give it to. Many people are using the condition of the world as an excuse to screw up or procrastinate and you don’t want to be hanging out with them! Of course you feel the encroaching reality that madness reigns now, but so does everybody else. Write, write, and write some more. And keep writing. In fact, your written word in private is more valuable than your spoken word in public at this time.
