You Can Set Your Watch By It

By Triana Èlan

Newton proved it first: What goes up must come down. The economy has done it, Michael Jackson has, and NASA and marriages and just about everything else.

What was once praised is now scorned, who was popular yesterday is shunned today and yesterday’s friend is today’s undoing. So it goes, so it has always gone. Why are we so continually surprised?

The human imagination is a stunning thing. Contained and put to disciplined use for the betterment of a culture or civilization, imagination is unlimited. Used in a sloppy and self-serving way, by individual or nation, promises degradation over time. Sometimes it’s instantaneous, sometimes it accumulates over time.

This is what transformation is about. This is what changing paradigms are about.

Within all of this chaos, however, is the usual banal predictable herd mentality that is exclusively human: let’s all panic. Let’s all find another excuse to fail in our personal lives. Let’s use any distraction whether it be drugs or alcohol or sex or gossip or fear to avoid facing our own faulty thinking. Yawn. Read the history books. It’s all happened before. We’re not doing anything new here, we’re not thinking anything new. We’re simply cycling through another one of those phases where power- mongers are beating their chests and puffing up and showing their fangs and bellowing.

Some mighty powerful imaginations are being used now, where the Old World is thinking creatively in order to stop the New World. Now there’s a concept! They’ve been there longer than we have. Should we trust their wisdom?

Of course not. What hormone filled teenager ever listens to an older person?

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
At short range there is frustration, but it won’t be long-lived unless you blow your cork. Aries has two types, the laid back type and the "get out of my way" type. Both have their own stubborn streaks and it’s important that you have time to be quiet and reflect on critical issues. Don’t jump to any conclusions or you’ll miss the real stuff!

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
Your staying power is bolstered now and it’s important that you pay attention to some habits that need to be changed. Preparedness rising to meet opportunity equals success. This is a time to "act as if." By that I mean, play with your imagination. Get rid of the clutter of past disappointments and savor the feeling of already being where you want to be.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
The emphasis for you is on things shared such as a business, joint accounts or committees. If you feel that you’ve been somehow thwarted, go back and see how you conducted yourself. Did you cave in to pressure even though you knew it wasn’t right? Did you react or decide out of fear? What ever it was, don’t do it again! Put on your strongest side but acknowledge your weak spots.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
While you’re somewhat forced to come out of your shell, you’re getting more comfortable thanks to someone close to you. Some parts of this period of time are a repeat or readdressing of situations from seven to nine years ago. What was left undone then is returning to you for your attention. Don’t shy away from what you’re responsible for.

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
With no less than three planets occupying your Solar sector of marriage and intimate relationships, you’re focused on The Other somehow. The situation is unpredictable and possibly unstable, so you’ll have to proceed with caution. Don’t be swayed by others’ opinions, including those that got stuck in your personality and became an integral weakness that you took as your own. Be true to yourself!

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
You don’t like it when things go in a way that rubs your sense of protocol the wrong way, but guess what...you don’t get a vote. Believe it or not, there are circumstances that are beyond your immediate control. The only control you have is over yourself and your own conduct. Focus there, make some firm resolves to nurture and care for what you already have. That will settle your mind.

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
Sweet Libra, nobody declared that you are responsible for everything and everyone! Somewhere along the line your natural tendency to assume that Life is fair tripped you up in a big way and you’re still smarting for it. I’ll loan you a quote from my own dear dad: "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and in between those two, don’t forget to duck." Take a martial arts class and move your body around.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
If you’re walking around with "Agenda" written all over your forehead, don’t be surprised by others’ negative reactions. Everyone is jittery right now and alert to possible traps of any kind. Your sign holds the title in the Ulterior Motives department; if you take that habit and transform it into a higher form you’ll feel an awful lot better.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
No two ways about it, this month has an awesome positive force about it for you. Your powers of persuasion are at a peak; hopefully you’re prepared to deliver the goods. Reliability is a must when you deal with others, even if it isn’t returned by them. Keep your own integrity as impeccable as possible.

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
A much needed bolster in the self esteem department is occurring for you now, so hopefully you’re not fighting it off tooth and nail! You are so accustomed to disappointment that you may be seeing too many things through that filter. This dampens the spirit terribly. Tell you what...whomever has done something nice for you, take them some flowers. You’ll be surprised how good you’ll feel.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Since this is your time of year, you are fortified by a fresh sense of resolve. You have a mind that does not sway easily once it locks on to a perceived truth. Truth is not always what makes the most sense. Be sure your actions truly reflect what’s inside of you rather than "what should be." The best you can give the world now is the real you!

Pisces (February 20-March 20)
You are likely surprised at the number of people who are on your side now; with three planets in your Solar house of transformation and regeneration, it’s likely that you’re adopting new ways of thinking about yourself. Now here’s the next step. Act. No, not on a stage, I mean take action on your own behalf. If you really believe in what you do, you have nothing to apologize for. Remember that and boldly go.
