The Changing Paradigm

By Triana Èlan

Remember back in the ‘80’s when the New Age lot was babbling on about the Great Paradigm Shift? Well, it’s here. Funny thing is, the Paradigm Shift was supposed to happen to everybody else, not us. Surprise!

Before we become a lawless land altogether what with the Constitution and Bill Of Rights being violated at every turn and interpreted into oblivion, it might be wise to stop and look at a few things.

First of all, there are simple rules and codes of conduct that define a society. In ours, being a good neighbor, helping out when we are able, doing our best every day is a simple start. Other good ideas include refraining from gossiping, striving to learn, keeping an open mind and not get hung up on whether or not we’re right.

Impressions are not facts, but we treat them as such. For example, a rich person can dress in rags to give the impression that they’re poor so people won’t hassle them. A “low-born” can dress up and change their way of speaking to give the impression of better breeding. One can learn all of the correct ways to speak and behave to give the impression of being spiritual. Or we can remain poker faced and impassive to give the impression of objectivity.

The entire world lives with impressions. Impressions have little to do with facts. A fact is simply an event. It happened. Period. Facts are really very boring unless they are festooned with the human imagination.

So what does this have to do with a Paradigm Shift? Let’s try this on for size: We, as a nation, are finding out what others really think of us, in spite of the fact that they love our dollars. In many other nations, we are loved for what we spend but disliked for the impression we leave behind.

We are a brave, creative and generous people. Our government is not. No government is. Governments aren’t supposed to be. Perhaps the biggest paradigm shift for the common people is this: Get a grip on life. It’s not fair, things happen, not everything has a deep meaning, and nobody is all that special yet each one of us is unique and fragile and precious.

Changing a paradigm is painful because it involves some pretty serious assessments and a radical change of habit. But we are adaptable, so we will survive.

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
Ah, a reprieve! Even though the whole world seems to be going down the tubes, you have a bit of a break in your personal life. Stay with it! Mercury, planet of communication and mental processes, has flown into airy Aquarius. This influence brings sudden inspirations and great ideas into your head. Now make them happen and stay with it. Perseverance is the key to success.

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
Venus in earthy Capricorn is your saving grace, Little Bull! You are such a dogged and determined sign, but not always in your own best interest. You now have the capacity to turn that around and begin afresh an idea that sat and got stale. You know how much you love things like fresh baked bread; dive into the idea with the same gusto!

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
Your poor little brain is all a-spin. Quit it! There’s n need to go flying off the handle. If there is something you can’t wrap your head around, don’t try. It will only make you crazy. This is an especially powerful week for you, but you must be as balanced as you can be. No extremes, Twin! You need your wits about you. Stay on task and don’t get distracted by things over which you have no control.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
Throwing a fit isn’t going to get the effect you had in mind, Moonchild. Don’t go there. These days, the cards are stacked against any emotional drama you may be experiencing and trying to express. You can’t change what you feel, but you can change how you present it to others. This may be a mammoth effort, but it will be worth it for the empowerment you’ll get out of the exercise. Do it.

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
Leo, you’ve always been one to keep risks to a minimum because you hate having no control. These days, though, few of us have much control over anything other than our immediate choices. So make your choices sterling, intact, and with good structural integrity. Slow and deliberate movements now. This is actually a boon time for you if you can read the signs accurately. So read them without distortion or embellishment.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
Are you feeling like the best role in a play for you would be that of Eeyore? Are you dragging in the mud a little bit? You poor thing, I suggest you go and visit your best friend and eat a little something soothing and have a nice campfire. Sometimes a nice fire can chase away the worry. Think back to when you were happiest. Whatever it was you were doing, make plans to do it again. It’s time to regain your strength.

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
How are you supposed to be making any headway with Venus in Capricorn bashing you round the ears like that all the time?! Well never mind, Libra. Mercury has just flown into unpredictable Aquarius and your mind is sharp enough to get past the lack of self worth stuff Venus is throwing at you. Do what you do best and stick to it. Exercise self reliance and hold your head up. Keep stupid people out of your life.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
This week the Sun slips into Pisces, which will take some strain off of you. Financially, you are considering taking some risks (albeit calculated), and they should do well for you. Your Solar second house of finances is favored. This is a good time to change jobs, go for the promotion or loan or whatever it is to better your lot. You’ll be better received now than in previous weeks.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
If things get much better you won’t know what to do with yourself, Archer! Now the thing you need is steadfastness and patience. And tact! Don’t shoot your mouth off no matter how self-conscious you get. It’s not your fault that things look easy for you from the outside. You’re a naturally lucky sign, but you put in your fair share of hard work. No nasty trends for you at the moment; if you came here looking for bad news you won’t find it. If something’s gone horribly wrong it’s because you weren’t paying attention.

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
Venus continues to hold her own in your sign, and with Mercury having moved into creative Aquarius, your second Solar house of finances is bolstered. Now is the time for networking with the purpose of gaining ground financially. You’ll have to color outside the lines and move outside of your own comfort zone (just don’t do anything illegal). But don’t fret, you’ll adjust.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Mercury in your sign has you feeling pretty sharp mentally, and for once it’s in a way that others can understand! Although this isn’t the best month in the world for you, this week will be a fine one. You’ll be able to pick up where you left off, move forward from where you got stuck, and feel like somebody fixed your gear box and got you out of first gear. This is good!

Pisces (February 20-March 20)
The Sun moves into your sign, and you will feel a sense of rejuvenation. Now listen, Pisces: you have to take an idea and twist it into a new form. Pluto, Saturn and Mars will dog you into transformation kicking and screaming, so you may as well go with the flow. If you can read this, you’re not a salmon and swimming upstream bashing yourself along the way is not efficient nor intelligent. Now go and get ready to celebrate your birthday.
