Quiet? Us?!

By Triana Èlan

Recently I ran across a quote from a book written in 1955 called "The Quiet American." I couldn’t help but be given pause, because it seems we never shut up! It seems that no matter where we turn, we are yapping and blabbing and barking and whining and jeering.

I’m devoting this essay to chuckling. I received a joke through email last week that was so funny to me I didn’t care whether or not it was true:

  1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

  2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

  3. The Japanese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

  4. The Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

  5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
As we move on toward further uncertainty and chaos, stay your own course. At times you might be tempted to be the Fighting Knight, but the wise will know when when to step back and wait. Since you don’t like to wait in any line, your attention will be better directed toward your own goal. The planets are about to get a little sloppy; make sure you’re not!

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
Comfort and security are the two things that mean the most to you, which is why your sign is hard hit now. For any individual it’s difficult to find steadfastness and loyalty in the world. So quit looking for it. Remain true to yourself, Taurus. Use this period of time as a classroom, remain vigilant, see your own triggers and change bad habits. Try a new tactic with an open mind or inquiry rather than expecting a certain outcome.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
Finally Saturn has come out of retrograde in your sign! It leaves your sign in June; you’re almost there! Saturn’s sojourn in one’s Sun sign is always difficult and since you are a mind that lives in the past or the future, the past couple of years has been difficult for you. Saturn is a strict teacher that doesn’t miss a trick. Take stock! At least you know what doesn’t work, which leaves room for many other possibilities.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
I just leaned the other day that if you take a crab and stand it on its head it will be still (it wasn't explained why). Since that animal is the symbol of your sign, let's look at it a little more closely: the crab scuttles side to side. This indicates lateral movement and could mean lateral thinking. The concept of "up" or "down" is difficult to grasp. Yet your thinking processes must rise above the realm of habit in order for you to gain any ground. Go take a class and learn something new. You have to join the world sometime!

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
As we creep toward Spring, you may find yourself bereft of anything to look forward to due to the uncertainty of our world. Order and space and quiet are essential for you to be productive and at your best. You must take time to reflect, to still your thoughts and to regain a sense of calm. Not easy these days, but you can do it. You'll just have to work a little harder to get it. Fortunately, hard work is something you're good at!

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
Looking at Should Be is going to further any distress you have, so don't go there. Thinking that way will only screw up your time management attempts. This is a very distracting time for everyone, especially for the mutable signs like you who try to be everywhere and do everything. Take a break. And quit procrastinating over that paperwork! If you use the excuse "I work best under pressure" you'll miss an opportunity later. Just do it.

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
With Saturn finally going direct in your fellow air sign of Gemini, you're going to feel relief and a sense of a different, better kind of order in your life. Now you'll be able to restructure, resurrect, reassess and feel better. Just take things one day at a time, remain true to yourself, and don't let anyone encroach in your emotional territory. You don't need to get knocked off your rails anymore. While it's initially thrilling, it's damaging to you in the long term.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
Very soon mighty Uranus moves out of Aquarius and into your fellow water sign of Pisces. This will bring with it a huge period of change for you, and an opening of relationship that you have not yet experienced. A milder, gentler time is in store for you, but it will take you a while to let your guard down. It's been a very long eight years, hasn't it? Now listen...prepare yourself by refraining from jumping to conclusions. Take time to see what is really there.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
So now we move into muddier waters in March. But don't fret, you've hopefully made enough headway to morph yourself into a jet-ski and fly over them. You've had to do some very hard work on yourself, Archer, and your unrelenting sense of justice has chased away a lot of riff-raff. Now relax and see what the terrain is like before you go charging off again. Choose your fellow adventurers wisely and they'll be with you for a long time.

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
Stern Saturn, your ruler, has now come out of retrograde. It doesn't matter which sign Saturn occupies; when it's retrograde you have a hard time. In this case, Saturn has been retro since last October, in the sign of mental Gemini. This has certainly added to a lot of confusion for you in the area of shared assets, business ventures with others and close friendships. Your best and brightest friends just let you have your space to do what you need to do. Refrain from being heavy-handed. Unless you're a top ranking military official, you don't need to bark out orders. That kind of behavior won't be well received.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Saturn is your co-ruler and it has just come out of retrograde; it's been asleep in Gemini since last October. You should be sensing a freedom of movement now that you thought would never come back. This occurs in your area of self-expression. A time of reevaluating begins now, an opportunity to explore the way your own mind works. Saturn will not allow you to jump to conclusions and assume. Get out the mental WD-40 and spray the hinges, you'll need it!

Pisces (February 20-March 20)
As mighty, antagonistic Uranus eyes your sign to move into, you.re no doubt feeling the tremblings of major change within yourself. Uranus will occupy your first Solar House of Self-Image for no less than eight years beginning on the 9th of March. Flex those swimming muscles and get ready for the ride of your life, Pisces! It.s your turn to transform and go into the crucible of restructuring! Don.t be afraid, just grab your surfboard!
