By Triana Èlan
Images are powerful things, especially if we believe them. My thoughts turn to the Tienneman Square massacre back in the ‘80’s and the famous image of a defiant student standing in front of a tank. He did not get run over. Yet using the same tactics, a young lady in Israel tried standing down a bulldozer and lost her life.
The images of the voluntary human shields going to Iraq were obviously ones of being gratefully received and being deployed where civilians were likely the most vulnerable. The reality of that situation, according to the reports from the shields themselves, is that they be stationed amongst Iraq’s assets rather than people.
Images are not reality. And not everybody thinks like us. Even our own individual reality is not Reality. It’s a very confusing situation.
So now we begin a very tenuous week, perhaps cautiously celebrating St. Patrick’s Day while feeling a sense of dread (or, for many readers, a sense of relief) about our world’s situation.
Whatever comes down, I hope that each of us can resolve to walk lightly in our own lives and put our focus on what we as individuals have direct control over. Mainly, our own behaviors. We can’t always control what we think and feel, but we can control the display of those thoughts and feelings.
It has been said that there is a curse that says, "May you be born during interesting times." We are definitely living during interesting times. To lighten the mood, I’ll offer you some quotes of strength and humor that I’ve picked up along the way. I didn’t make any of them up and don’t know who did, but they’re pretty good:
- "If you’re not living on the edge you’re in the way."
- "Take the leap, you’ll have time to grow your wings on the way down."
- "They came to the cliff. He pushed them. And they flew."
And, for those who like to identify people who have gotten into the Stupid Pills, here are a few ways to describe moronic tendencies:
- Not the sharpest knife in the drawer
- Two sandwiches short of a picnic
- Elevator doesn’t go all the way up
- And finally, as a playful retort to someone who’s trying to pull something on you:
"I was born at night, but not last night."

Aries (March 21 - April 20): Oh you lucky Ram! The Sun and Mercury both enter your sign this week, boosting your morale and thawing out your blood. Mars, your Ruler, occupies Capricorn now and this combination makes for an interesting mood. Don’t start more than one thing at a time now, no matter how tempting it is to do so. Become the Master of One.

Taurus (April 21 - May 20): We spring into Spring this week, and are you ever ready for the bloom! You poor Bull, it’s been a long time since you’ve felt this good. Yes, you may pinch yourself, because it looks real and solid. Stay on course and savor each moment of revelation and discovery. Although you’re not the adventurous type, you are definitely on an adventure now.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20): Your Ruler Mercury sails into fiery Aries this week, stoking your inner fires and preparing you for new ideas and a burst of creative action. Wow. You’re such a will-o’-the-wisp, here one moment and gone the next, but now something worthy has your attention and you’re on it! Keep it up, Twin.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22): If you’re looking to further yourself either through education or a new job, this could very well be the time to take action. Learning new things features strongly for you this month, and you’re either longing for or into new terrain. Don’t overdo yourself, Moonchild. You’ll have to move quickly, but more like a “fast on your feet” kind of thing. You don’t have to overreach yourself to prove anything.

Leo (July 23 - August 22): Your rockets are firing and you’re ready to launch something new. This may not be your choice, but the next few weeks hold new ground for you in the form of new beginnings. Even old ground will look new to you because you’ll have a fresh perspective. Keep up that good attitude and keep your noble mane tidy.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22): Issues of property or inheritance may come up, or perhaps you’re in a joint venture in business that is beginning a new phase. This is good! Things are looking up, and your life in the coming years will take on a whole new depth of meaning due to mighty Uranus in your opposite sign of Pisces. Keep it up, Virgo. You’re a hard worker with a stout soul.

Libra (September 23 - October 22): The Sun and Mercury both fly into Aries this week, marking the coming of Spring and a whole new outlook. You single Librans may find someone special in the next few weeks. Married Librans will see changes in the dynamics of your relationship in the form of some radical truths and improved communication. This is a busy time for you!

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22): Venus and Neptune are still in unrealistic Aquarius and lately they seem to be disturbing your reality! If you’re experiencing deep fears or a reluctance to repeat past mistakes, it’s likely that stillness is the key for you. Action now can be unreliable and though you’re not typically swayed, you might be talked into something that’s not good for you. Take care and respect yourself. And others.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20): As Spring blows into existence, you’ll experience this week as the shot out of the cannon. About time, Archer! Three planets in Pisces has really been getting under your skin, but two of them (the Sun and Mercury) sail into fiery Aries this week, bringing your attitude back into the sun with renewed energy and resolve.

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19): As Spring approaches, you’re likely seeing dust in the corners and things unswept. Gee, might this be on your own back porch?! Never short of an opinion, others look to you for answers to the unanswerable. But if you find your head getting into a twist, stop talking and start moving around. You are an Earth sign and a darned trustworthy one but there are a few rusty hinges in your mind that the spring breezes will alert you to.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19): The Sun and Mercury both flying into fiery Aries this week have you considering a new beginning or a different approach. With Venus in your own sign, you have a good shot at success as you continue forward. The coming weeks are about dropping old baggage and getting to know yourself all over again. How sweet! Keep that winning smile, and hopefully your heart will be smiling too.

Pisces (February 20-March 20) Now we wrap up your time for another year and by the weekend all Pisces people will have had their birthdays. You are the sign signaling the end of winter, the end of darkness and hope for renewal. Never forget that. Sometimes the burden is a great one to bear, but don’t take yourself so seriously. Inside every Pisces is a clown waiting to make merry. Pull yours out just for fun.
