Signs Of the Times

April 7 - 13, 2003

By Triana Èlan

Time to unload. These are difficult times for many, many people. When times get tough, people sure do get squirrely! There seems to be several types of reactions to what is happening with the economy: Pull the covers over your head and hope it gets better (I must admit I did this for a while during the winter. All I did was sleep and gain weight). Another is to try to sell everything for the price you could have gotten two years ago, then get all mad because nobody is willing to pay that price. This is especially true of real estate. A really awful thing is seeing the "good old boys" pushing the little people out in order to make room for something bigger and better. And yes, this is happening in our dear islands.

Someone once said that there are two things that move the stock market: fear and greed. During a Fear market (they must be calling it Bear by mistake), all kinds of schemes and scams come up.

Someone recently even tried to sell his family on eBay! Good grief. People are now trying to sell things even if they aren’t nailed down!

I think the days of looking for someone with "more money than brains" is over. People don’t seem to have either these days.

Anyway, I’m weary of the fear, greed and mean spirited behavior I’m seeing around me. It’s so stupid and unnecessary. Yes, we do want to be sure we’re okay as a first priority, but wouldn’t it be nice to think that we want to be sure we’re okay so we can be of service? Ha! Dream on. Some people are like that, and I applaud us. But the rest are not playing nice and as a friend of mine said, "When God gets back from Iraq, you just wait. They’ll get their come-uppance."

So here’s to the little people everywhere that are being shot at as if we are Iraqi convoys. The enemy is not just in the Middle East, it’s right here at home, within us. Enough!

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
You’re now in a good position to negotiate for a raise or a better position financially through negotiation. Mercury gliding into your second Solar House of finance and resources sharpens your mind and helps you look forward for the long term. Jupiter in noble, generous Leo also kicks in the charm in your sector of self-expression. Go for it!

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
This is your day, Bull! Mercury flies into your sign, sharpening your communication skills and helping you gain clarity. You have plenty going for you, so jump into the game and play it for all it’s worth! Saturn is still dogging you financially, but all it’s asking you to do is get focused and take action. As a Taurus friend of mine says on her outgoing answering machine message, “You know what to do, so please do.”

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
Venus in wishy-washy Pisces is driving you crazy in some ways, but what you’re asking everybody else for is actually what you yourself need to give! Gee, what a concept! Try setting an example and don’t let people get away with stuff. You teach people how to treat you, so perhaps some retraining is in order. But you have to treat yourself well first. Always a catch, isn’t there?!

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
Oh, now this is better. Venus in soothing Pisces calms your nerves and also brings compassion your way. Mercury moves into steadfast Taurus, giving you the resolve to finish what you started. Mercury will have a long tour in Taurus due to a retrograde, so you’re going to have plenty of opportunities in the next couple of months. Take them!

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
Well, it’s not as stable or predictable as it could be, yet there is a sense of adventure in the air! Jupiter is happily direct in your sign, singing away in your life. Even if circumstances demand that you get all stressed out, you just can’t take it seriously. That’s a good thing, because your sign rules the heart and spine. If you have a spine you won’t have a heart attack!

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
Well now, how are you supposed to get anything done with everything crashing and banging around like that?! Especially taxes. Yech. Virgo, get them done anyway. Now. The fact that you probably don’t have the cash doesn’t matter or make it any better. Get an extension and get on with your life and don’t procrastinate! Make sure you actually put the money aside this time!

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
Hey, here you are out there with all the kind words and nice deeds and you’re not getting your pieces of eight! Wah. You can be two very distinct people, one side being generous and kind and one side being stingy and edgy. A lot of this depends on what’s coming at you. Focus on what’s within you, Libra. If you place your attention solidly deep within yourself, the world can’t fool you because you won’t fool yourself.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
Mercury moves into your opposite sign of Taurus, meaning an awful lot of communication in matters of money and partnerships of some kind. Perhaps you’re recently divorced or split up and the issue is the booty. That can get nasty, especially now. The good thing about you is that you have a very long memory. That can also be a casualty, so use that memory in a good way.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
Mars occupying your second house of finances and resources has you eyeing a prize that is likely snarled up with rules of some kind. Ick. Well, Archer, you are a risk taker and you take risks with such aplomb that you make it look easy. Your sense of self-worth could be clouded right now due to Venus and Uranus both drowning in watery Pisces. Don’t let that deter you, just get real and keep working. You’ll get there!

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
Mercury has glided into steadfast Taurus, and this gives you a sense of resolve and closure. You never feel completely at peace, since your sign is ruled by stern Saturn. You always feel like They’re Watching You. It’s fine to feel like that, but don’t say it out loud. People don’t like hearing that. Short trips and education figure strongly now, so if you’re going to the mainland take an educational book to read.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Mercury flies into stubborn Taurus, and this may throw a wrench into negotiations. Choose your words with care, but not so much care that you put the listener to sleep! Or maybe you should go ahead and put them to sleep, some people are better when they’re unconscious. Pressure is on to settle old things while building something new and this can get confusing, but only if you think about it too much. So don’t think so much.

Pisces (February 20-March 20)
Venus is in your sign, blowing you kisses and giving you encouragement. This is good, since pretty soon she’s going to take a swat at sneaky Pluto in fiery Sagittarius, which means an Experience for you, Little Fishy! Don’t get swamped or all caught up in being afraid. If you’re old enough to read this, you’re old enough to have the good taste to make a fine choice. Just make it for the right reasons! Oops, I hit the Brood Button, didn’t I? Darn.
