The Sleepless Ranks

April 21- 27, 2003

By Triana Èlan

Okay, they say, analyze this: Mars is swinging in for a very close approach to Earth. In August, Mars will be physically closer to Earth than it has been in an estimated 73,000 years. This is no joke!

People frantically ask, "What does this mean?!" Well, so far it means interrupted sleep. I don’t think it’s just the war and the economy, stupid or not. I think that the effect of Mars’ approach has us all whacked out as well.

Couple that physical phenomenon with an almost unheard of event on Monday the 21st of three planets changing signs on the same day and we have a nice little stressmonger activated in our brains and nervous systems.

People have been asking me for a long time, "When will this be over?" And my answer has consistently been, "You gotta be kidding, it’s only just getting started!"

These days it’s difficult to make intelligent choices because getting the facts is a much more complicated process. The loopholes and hidden agendas and catches outnumber the facts. So how are we supposed to think? Again, this is a character building thing. Number One, we don’t take it personally. Number Two, we realize that everything has changed, yet nothing is new. We are sliding backwards at an alarming rate. Or are we? When the Iraquis were "liberated," they started looting. Granted, not every single one of them, but that’s what got the attention. What seems to be going right is only someone’s opinion and quite likely propaganda, if it comes from the media (mass or alternative), so of course we’re going to take it with a gain of salt.

Thing is, we’re not taking it with just a grain of salt. We’re getting angry, sad, scared and mean. This has all been building up for a number of years. And getting this mess we’re in untangled is going to take some doing.

First we need to address this little greed problem. Enron. WorldCom. American Airlines and their sickening CEO pensions. What on earth do those people DO that’s so wonderful and worth so much that the rest of us don’t do? And why is "worth" so glorified on the outside?

That’s what’s bugging me and keeping me awake. Watching people I thought I knew turn into strangers almost over night, watching people being forced into lying to survive, while the professional liars are making insane amounts of money and calling the people who built the very foundations for them "losers."

And people, if all it takes is a few liars to derail our heads, we’d better shore up our own personal infrastructures and get in the game. It’s far from over, and unless we defend what is true and good we we may as well roll over. And what we roll over sure ain’t gonna be a 401k!

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
Venus moves into your sign for almost a month! This gives you a real boost, and your inner ice is thawing out. About time, huh? Some chances are now coming about for you to redeem yourself in some ways, to make some fresh changes in other ways, and to generally improve your lot. If you’ve been having a hard time, look to these days for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
Wow, are you ever about to get propelled into some changes! Beginning Monday the 21st, three planets change sign! The Sun moves into your sign and at the same time Venus enters Aries (hooray for you) and Mars goes into Aquarius. Well, two out of three ain’t bad! Now that you’re all upset, let’s focus on Mars in Aquarius...if something has raised your wrath, you’ve had it and you’re not going to take it anymore!

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
Three planets change sign on the same day, and this brings some zest and excitement to you! A spring in your step and a sparkle in your eye and you’re away with new ideas. Whether or not they’ll come to fruition doesn’t seem to be the issue. The point is, one must dream and ponder if one is an airy Gemini! Plan on some family time or time with true blue friends. That’s always fun.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
Three planets change sign today! Yippee! Oh, now don’t get all scared and go scuttling under a rock. This is the time to make things happen! A new, fresh season is here and you’re shaking off the last of the winter mold. That feels good! While economic times demand that you settle for less, don’t be surprised to see an opportunity show itself in the coming months. Just keep moving forward and don’t get distracted.

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
Just when you thought things were going to settle down, this week holds some new surprises for you. Three planets all change signs on the same day, completely shifting your attention. The good news is, it’s new stuff. To heck with the old and outdated! Time to upgrade yourself and recover your dignity. Go get your hair done!

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
Flexibility is the key, and it looks like you’ve been eyeing that clutter room with some interest in clearing it out. But you know, you might still be able to use this someday, and you can’t possibly get rid of that, and hey! What about those shoeboxes with all those papers in them? You know that once you take one lid off you’ll be swamped. Better just close the door and do something else. Use the miserable state of the world as an excuse, they’ll buy it.

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
Network, network, network! Things are moving fast and you want to stay on top of it. Ideas and different concepts are presenting themselves at every turn. But sometimes, too much information is too much. Take one thing at a time, prioritize and consult. But not too much. You can’t take too much more input right now. Stick with advisors who are practical but creative and you’ll feel lots better. Options are different than choices, you know.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
With three planets all changing signs on the same day, you might be feeling a little frazzled by the end of this week, so take it easy. You may be fooled into thinking that you have more energy than you really do. Don’t go there! Pace yourself and don’t try to be all things to all people. This is a time to use your discernment to pick your projects.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
Looks like your capsizing ship is about to right itself, now that others have had some time to think things over. Lady Luck may well be smiling on you in the coming months, Archer! Three planets change sign all on the same day, and they are all favorable for you. So keep that winning smile, but be honest about what you need. Being stoic is good to a point, then you have to be honest. You’ll find friends you didn’t know you had!

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
You’re wanting to turn your attention to something right this minute, but the thing isn’t ready to receive your attention yet. In some ways you’re champing at the bit to start, but still you need to hold back a bit. Patience isn’t always yours, and at the same time control is a big issue. Patience and control are close friends, so hold tight and nurture what’s going right.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Mars flies into your sign on the same day that the Sun enters Taurus and Venus charges into fiery Aries. Wow! This will be a very interesting period of time for you. A change of heart, a second chance, a renewal, a sense of death. All at once. It’s a good thing you like being off the ground! Just don’t get swept off your feet. And try not to be selfish, you need to brush up in the empathy department a bit.

Pisces (February 20-March 20)
Talk about the fish that roared! This is your time to do just that, and you’re being catapulted out of one thing and into another. If you did it yourself, that’s great. If you didn’t, then Life is doing it for you because you couldn’t make up your mind. Think of this, Pisces: if you’re on the tracks and a trains coming at you, do you have to ponder the deepest mysteries of the Universe before you get out of the way? I think not!
