A Recent Study Shows...

May 19 - 25, 2003

By Triana Èlan

That we were right all along. I just read on the internet news that "Study Reveals Politicians Lie." Gee, do ya THINK?

Who on Earth is conducting these studies and just how are they getting paid and who by?

We live in a society of mixed messages, doublespeak, political correctness and the leftover jargon psychobabble left over from the ‘80’s (where if someone approaches you and "has something they’d like to share with you" means you’re about to get bad news).

Recent studies have proven such invaluable things such as chicken soup being good for people with colds, vitamins do help your health, whales probably don’t like loud sonar pings underwater, and the mating habits of animals we’ve never heard of.

It amazes me that with all these studies and proofs and official declarations, people are still not communicating!

We need some serious Capricorn influences here, folks. Taurus, too. These people shoot from the hip and cut through the b.s. They like to keep it simple.

Since it’s spring and we’re moving from Taurus energy to that of Gemini, I’d like to pay a tribute to the Taurus people in my life. Stubborn as they may be, they are solid folks who, for better or for worse, always let us know that the earth is truly under our feet.

My boss is a Taurus. With Taurus, communication about boundaries is never garbled. If they have something interesting in their hands or house or car or clothing and you ask them about it, they’ll always begin the answer with, "It’s mine." That’s why I like them so much. They’re simple. They’re to the point. Here’s to you, you wonderful Bulls! And since you’re also good with money (tight fisted and frugal except with your nearest and dearest whom you spoil with reckless abandon), why do you think Merrill Lynch has a bull for its symbol?

Maybe a study should be launched to find out if the Merrill Lynch bull has anything to do with astrology.

Better luck next week if you came to my column looking for wisdom. I’m moving house and repairing fences and working overtime. And I’m not a Taurus. Dang.

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
Here comes a power surge! Don’t hurt yourself, Aries! This week holds the potential for productivity and progress regarding something you’ve been procrastinating. If you began something a while ago and didn’t finish it, now you have the impetus to go back to it and carry it through with style. And style is your trademark!

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
Venus in your sign bolsters your sense of who you really are, what you’re about, and where you want to go in life. Don’t hang onto old disappointments; that will only block your mind to the better possibilities that are available. You’re not quick to make changes or get over things, but doggone it, you’re loyal! Be loyal to the things that are good for you.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
Blasted with a plethora of new ideas, you’re hard to catch these days. Social activities and lots of things to do are keeping your swift feet moving. Reliability can be a problem for you sometimes, but planetary positions keep you on track now. Be sure to let your friends in on the fun; you have the support to see you through.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
With Saturn edging closer to your sign, you’re already feeling the effects in terms of feeling the need to get organized. You may be pulling in your energy now, preparing for the next step, even if you don’t know what it is. Your intuition is strong, so use it well. If you’re feeling the need to make a change, you’re probably correct, so make those changes where you can.

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
When one door closes, another opens. You’re moving into a new phase of life, whatever your age. The shackles of the past are falling off and you’re getting more creative about how you approach your life. Good for you! Being a fixed sign, you do have your definite ways of doing things and you don’t like to be challenged. But sometimes challenge is a good thing. Stay open.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
The perfection thing just isn’t going to work, so you’re better off dropping it. You can be either very hard on yourself or you can throw your hands in the air and give up, figuring you’ll never be good enough. This polarity needs to have some balance. Whatever it is, Virgo, just do it. Stay open to miracles and stop arguing with yourself.

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
Instead of focusing on being balanced inside of yourself all the time, find the balance in the moment. Sometimes balance is about action, not attitude. You are a mental sign and use your mind to bring about a reason for things. Forget reason. See what needs to be done and do it. You don’t need a consensus every time, that wears your friends out. Experiment!

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
Once you lock onto something, it’s hard to get you unstuck. You are a fixed sign with definite opinions and ways of dealing with the world. Now you’re finding that you need to tweak your protocol here and there. This is a good thing...self improvement never hurt anyone. Don’t worry about what you’ve done wrong. If you’ve caused someone pain, correct it to the best of your ability. If you’ve hurt yourself, move on and be open.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
You may well be stymied now, wondering what to do next. You do like to know that your next step isn’t into quicksand! You’re a sign of movement, not necessarily linear. But this month holds the changes you’ve been hoping for and that light at the end of the tunnel you’ve been thinking would never come. And no, it isn’t an oncoming train! Take it one day at a time and don’t project too far into the future.

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
You may be in a royal snit, but remember that everyone is not like you. Find the soft place inside of you and wrap it around you. Assuming the worst all the time will only serve to bring it about, because your behavior is altered. If you’re feeling trapped and frustrated, hold on. Don’t pay so much attention to everybody else. Focus on the quality of your inner life.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Some say that as you think, so you are. That’s true. But as you think does not apply to other people. They have their own thoughts. Your ability to rally for the cause is admirable, but once the cause gets going, you’re not necessarily interested anymore. That’s okay, as long as you make that understood. And being understood is not one of those things you’re familiar with!

Pisces (February 20-March 20)
That little squishy part of you inside is vulnerable to being hardened and frozen if life gets goo hard. You have the heart of a saint but look what happens to saints! Focus on moving on, not moving in. Just as "man cannot live by bread alone," you can’t survive on feelings, even intuitive ones. See what’s really happening and let your opinions rest. Save them for later when all the results are in.
