All Dressed Up and Nowhere To Go

June 30 - July 6, 2003

By Triana Èlan

I’ve missed writing my essays over the past two weeks. I have been "moving." After a flurry of activity, cleaning and packing to the point of exhaustion, scheduling trailer and horse hauling and taking two weeks off work, here my horses and I sit, still on Orcas.

There is an astrological point to this which I will share with you, because we Boomers are getting hammered, especially those of us in our 40’s:

  • In 1999 I made the decision to ditch the ridiculously high rents here in the islands and live in a trailer. I figured I would be mobile and the cost of renting a patch of dirt for my trailer would be about $700 less than renting a house that I was hardly in anyway due to my having work and horses. I made this decision when I was 43. At that time, I was in the beginning of a generational planetary transit period that my age group is undergoing: Neptune square Neptune, Jupiter square Jupiter, and some other stuff.

  • Neptune is awful to deal with because it lies. No, Neptune doesn’t lie, but its influence can certainly cause us to lie to ourselves and see glitter where there is only Fool’s Gold.

  • So off I went to from Lopez to Orcas, with high hopes and encouragement from Orcas friends.

  • At the end of the Neptune thing, here I still sit on Orcas. My friends who thought it would be just ducky for me to move here have all left, my trailer is going to be an absolute bear to move from its spot due to the terrain (so much for being hitch-and-go mobile), anyone on any island who could haul my horses is unavailable, and in general, my Orcas experience has been rather disappointing. Thank you, Neptune, who rules Orcas Island by the way.

This little "sharing session" is to let you know that sometimes no matter how hard we try, no matter how hard we push to "make it happen," it just ain’t gonna happen. This is not necessarily a personal failure, it’s just life.

What have I learned over the past three years now that Neptune is done with me? I’ve finally "gotten it" about having no expectations. I’m learning the delicate balance between having no expectations and being discouraged. I’ve learned that the world of the mind is diametrically opposed to what’s really happening. I’ve learned to listen to myself above anyone else, meaning that little gut thought of "Well, I’m just not sure if that’s right for me." This does not mean being so opinionated that the mind is closed or being immovable. It simply means that at the end of the day I have to live with my decisions and choices. That’s an enormous responsibility, but one I’m happy to shoulder.

So Boomers, do what you must to get by. Don’t overshoot yourself. Don’t rely on the promises of others. Look at the long term with your eyes wide open. And most important, don’t feel like a failure unless you’re all talk and no action. If that’s the case, take baby steps to correct that.

Aries (March 21 - April 20):
Wow Aries, the month of July starts out with a bang for you and it’s more than fireworks! You may be moving, buying or selling property or dealing with a living situation that is changing. Lots of decisions to make this month with so much loaded in your Home sector of your solar chart! Issues related to work are also featured (like what else is there in life!) prominently. Whatever it is you have going, it’s really going!

Taurus (April 21 - May 20):
No less than four planets roar into your sector of short journeys so if it’s a little respite you seek, go for it! Looks like you need to unwind a bit, maybe treat yourself to a spa or go flop on a beach somewhere. It’s likely that you’re going to be feeling pretty restless this month, so use all that energy for the thing you like the most: security! Take advantage of the season, fill yourself up with the talent you have. Then fill up your bank account too!

Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
Four planets including Mercury sail into Cancer now, lighting up your sector of resources! Looks like you’re about to feel mighty nurtured by a wee windfall this month if you make the right moves! You do have the gift of gab and that can get you ahead as long as you’re willing to follow through with the commitment. Yuck, the “c” word. You do like variety and a lot of freedom, don’t you? Sigh.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
Four planets in your sign this month puts a twinkle in your eye and an extra bounce to your stride! If you’re a male, make your swagger a little more graceful. If you’re a female, practice flouncing. This month is your month Moonchild, so grab it and enjoy it to the fullest. You have a lot going for you now; don’t shrink away from stuff you know darned well you can do!

Leo (July 23 - August 22):
Looks like this might be a month dedicated to some soul searching and hindsight. If we don’t pause to look back, we forget where we’ve been! Gather your experiences and hold them close, but not too close. You don’t want to get stuck! You’re very focused on settling or nesting now, and you do need your den for that! Get yourself some space so you can think.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
This month has the potential to be a great one for you, and it’s also a time to embrace your friends. Friends are plentiful now (especially living in these islands with all those folks wanting to come and visit!). Now listen Virgo, don’t play the martyred host. This summer, have your guest pitch in with a project or two. Really! They’ll like doing it and you’ll be thankful come winter. Just don’t nitpick, hon.

Libra (September 23 - October 22):
Hey Libra! This month packs a whallop and you can really kick some booty! It’s very likely your plate is going to get overloaded, so don’t forget that “down time.” You need a bit of that each day to recalibrate yourself. Now listen, you’re going to have to finish some stuff before you can start any new stuff, so get it out of the way. Your sector of career is lit up now. Make the most of every moment because although it’s not exactly what you had in mind, there’s really good stuff in it for you!

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22):
Who turned on the faucets?! Are you suddenly surrounded by whiners, Scorpio? Or are you perhaps indulging in a little of it yourself (never!)? Others’ emotions are flying about something, and you may find yourself being pulled in several directions at once. You’re the type to take no prisoners, but if your life is laden with emotional conflict it might be time to lay down the law.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20):
So comes July. Already! You may still be languishing in February, Archer! Get with the program! Hey, misunderstandings happen and they blow over, so keep your good attitude and apply some major discipline to yourself. Being the champion of the underdog, be sure you have enough in your bag of tricks to help. If your tank’s low you’re going to have to refill it before you can give your time away.

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19):
Hey, who took the spotlight and turned it onto you?! This month you’re likely to find yourself at center stage; the reason for it may be for good or not so good. Tread lightly, keep certain opinions to yourself, and don’t force an issue. Sometimes even you need to listen and that takes patience. Patience isn’t something you’re long on, especially if it seems someone or something is in the way. Take some time each week to just enjoy puttering and being alone.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19):
Well now suddenly the focus shifts. How did that happen? Were you paying attention to something else? You may be feeling like your life is not your own, but it’s really a matter of how you spend your time. And you’re not one who likes to be left out of anything, so of course you are busy! Watch your health this month...four planets are moving through your sector of health and you want to be mindful of it this month. This could be the time something bothersome shows up. If it does, deal with it, don’t try to think your way out of it.

Pisces (February 20-March 20)
Hey Pisces, guess what! Four planets in Cancer the beginning of July have you set up for some extreme discoveries! It’s true, some new and interesting projects will come your way that allow you to be at your best. The only draw back is that there may be many of them and you’ll have to choose (move it or lose it); or they may have an emotional impact on you (what doesn’t?). Best of all, you just might rediscover romance! Ooooh, get out the flowers, my friend, you’re going a-courtin’ (even if it’s with your spouse of many years).
