More on the Power of Greens

posted 05/06/03
If I convinced you in my last column that the power of greens can help you prevent osteoporosis, then I invite you to read on about how greens can help avert and alleviate dis-ease. (Actually, you’re invited to read on even if you aren’t convinced!)

We all know when we’re "getting a cold ". Slight symptoms, such as a sore throat, runny nose, etc. clue us in. We’ve been taught to start drinking ORANGE juice, a highly acidic source of vitamin C (at least it is if it was freshly squeezed.)

So, I’m here to offer you a shift in thinking when it comes to the color of the juice you reach for in this situation. The truth is: germs, viruses and bacteria thrive in an acid environment. As I mentioned last column, most of what we eat, drink and do (as in stress) to the body is acidifying. We create the ideal acid environment for those little unwanted guests to party in. Then, we’re programmed to drink an acidifying beverage to help cure something that thrives in acid!

As Dr. Theodore A. Baroody, Jr states in his book Alkalize or Die, (catchy title, huh?): "An aberrant virus, fungus or bacteria in the body can only survive in an acid environment. " He adds, "…the more imbalanced we allow our bodies to become, mentally, emotionally and physically, the more susceptible we are to viral infections. "

So go for the GREENS to alkalize your body and offer those aberrant intruders an unfriendly environment, one that invites them to go away rather than stay.

Fresh green juice, (celery, spinach, cabbage, etc) deliciously offers nutritional alkaline support, as does some of the powdered greens available such as Green Magma and Barley Green.. These powders are easy to mix in water or juice.

By alkalizing daily with fresh green veggies eaten raw or slightly steamed and green juice, you’ll be attaining and maintaining a body chemistry that can defeat and delete those pesky invaders.

So, get pro-active and go for the GREEN! After all, if you don’t, who will?
