What a bizarre summer it’s been! The weather is crazy, the political climate is super cranky and naughty and mean, a big CME hit the planet on Saturday and sparked Northern Lights where they normally don’t appear. Thunderstorms have been rolling through Western Washington for days and that isn’t normal. Didn’t we say “normal is boring”? What were we thinking?!

Welcome to another very active week in the planetary realm. First off, Mercury has gone retrograde and all of the outer planets are retrograde as well, so half of the heavenly bodies are slacking off, which may not be a bad thing. I think we’re a bit road-weary.

Retrograde Mercury, as you will recall, is not a time to start a new project or sign binding contracts unless the signing of the contract is the end of a process begun many months ago. Even then, double and triple check everything. Mercury is retrograde in the sign of Leo, so this will not bode well in the entertainment industry that Leo rules.

Those of you in that arena of the arts can expect faulty props at the wrong time, wiring problems, and the usual dumb stuff that goes wrong, including the star of the show not showing up; that kind of stuff. We may also be a bit sensitive in self-esteem issues since Leo also rules that, but what else is new? Our country is hooked on adversity and overcoming it even if we have to make the adversity happen to ourselves. Wednesday’s New Moon will occur in the sign of Cancer, and this gives us the chance to lay things to rest emotionally and get over ourselves.

Between five retrograde planets, a Grand Cross forming off and on all week that keep us energized and even stressed, solar flares and a very abnormal summer, hopefully we can stick together and come up with viable solutions rather than lofty ideals. Practical and simple is good but in a world that is truly now a global community where everything is connected to everything else, simple can get complicated very fast unless one is a hermit. Still, we are in an accelerated state of evolution and there are new opportunities everywhere if we have the eyes to see and the ears to hear.

Aries (March 21 - April 20): Mercury is now retrograde in your sector of Creative Expression/Children. If you have kids at home, this is likely to be that trying time of the Dog Days trying to keep order or change the order and ending up with frustration and misunderstandings. In any event, delays and the usual weirdness will occur off and on for the next three weeks so keep that in mind and stay on your toes. Wednesday’s New Moon occurs in your sector of Home so midweek should be pretty interesting for you in one way or another. If you find there is just too much on your plate, you’re going to have to scrape some off.

Taurus (April 21 - May 20): Mercury is now retrograde in your sector of Home so if you’re remodeling or moving, expect things to be stubborn and somewhat unmovable for the next three weeks. You’ll have to work twice as hard to get where you want to be, but since you’re a very focused type you’ll make it. Wednesday’s New Moon occurs in your sector of Thinking/Communicating and clears the way for solutions. With all of the activity happening around you, pick your battles wisely and if all else fails there’s always chocolate.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20): Your Ruler Mercury is now retrograde and this always throws a crazy bone into your skeleton so be careful! This retrograde is in your sector of Thinking/Communicating so if you are normally on top of your game at work or in school or at home you’re likely to have a problem making decisions due to obstacles that lead to a maze of walls (so it seems). Remember, no major decisions or starting a major project during retrograde Mercury but if you’re already well underway, you’ll have to figure stuff out on the fly. Wednesday’s New Moon occurs in your sector of finances/resources; don’t go on a spending spree just yet.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22): Mercury is now retrograde in your sector of money/finances; you may have unexpected expenses or delays getting paid for something you’re owed. Only take it personally if you have to. Many people don’t bother to pay back what they owe or bring back what they’ve borrowed. For the next three weeks, it’s best to not loan anything out that you can’t afford to lose (that’s general wisdom but especially true during this retrograde). Wednesday’s New Moon in your sign clears the way for how to handle emotions that are intense and counterproductive.

Leo (July 23 – August 22): Mercury is retrograde in your sign now, so don’t be surprised to feel yourself muddled and confused even if you didn’t get a new electronic gadget recently. Anyway, you know the drill and you’re a cautious and reserved type anyway if you are true to your sign. Let’s just say that the next three weeks will either be your best in terms of rescuing a situation or not so good due to being distracted. Check and double check everything if you’re going away from home. The New Moon on Wednesday occurs in your sector of Endings, so it’s possible that something can be settled for good now with the combined energies of Mercury and the new Moon.

Virgo (August 23 ) Mercury is now retrograde in your sector of Endings, giving you a chance to go back and see the pattern of recent events. Funny how we tend to go back and look in hindsight when things go wrong but not when they’re going right. This will be a good time to explore the right decisions you’ve made and take note of the patterns so you can do it again! The New Moon in your sector of Friends/Goals clears the way for cutting the lines to the dock that’s preventing you from sailing. Now go look at yourself in the mirror and smile!

Libra (September 23 - October 22): Mercury has gone retrograde in your sector of Friends/Goals so it could very well be that the people who promised to help you move or do repairs bailed on you and you’re so mad you have proclaimed you will never ever do anything for anyone again. Time to think outside the box and use a different strategy for the next three weeks, as retrograde Mercury dictates. Wednesday’s New Moon in your sector of Career clears the way for you to be extra productive at work during this time and if you really pay attention you can alleviate problems before they start.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22): Mercury is not retrograde in your sector of Career, so things at work may be a bit snarky and weird during this period of time. Since Mercury is in the Fixed sign of Leo (your sign is also a Fixed sign), there may be an argument with someone or at least a major disagreement. See your way through it even if you know you’re right and these next three weeks will yield the clues you need for research and learning. Wednesday’s New Moon in your sector of Expansion/Higher Education brings a lesson and possibly a near-miss where your suspicions are confirmed and you bring an end to something, setting you free of future problems.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 20): While the planets are extremely energetic, your mind is going in too many different directions. Mercury is retrograde in your sector of Expansion so attempts to get ahead will likely be stunted for the next three weeks. Use extreme caution with your dreams unless they are already well under way and have been for some months. Don’t overshoot your target, keep it simple. The New Moon in your sector of Shared Assets sees you parting with money but in a good way; just expect delays or snags because of Mercury being asleep and not up to his usual game.

Capricorn (December 21 - January 19): Mercury is now retrograde in your sector of Shared Assets/Intimacy. This isn’t all bad; it’s time to pause and pay attention to other things in your life; if you’ve been hyper-focused in one area, back off from it and give it a rest. Don’t be impulsive even if you get riled. The New Moon in your sector of Relationships gives you a breather in terms of drama. You’re not dramatic anyway, you just know how things should be and can’t see why they aren’t like that! Dance at least twice this week and get the stubborn thoughts out of your head to make room for the winds of inspiration.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 19): Things just get more and more bizarre, and you’re in your element. You’re not even the cause of the chaos, but you can certainly jump right in as you see fit! You’re not about establishing order even though your house may be tidy; wherever you go, minds have to change to accommodate your presence and expressions because you’re just too off the rails for the commoner. Mercury in retrograde is in your sector of Relationships so look for surprises there during the next three weeks. Wednesday’s New Moon occurs in your sector of Work/Health, and this is a good thing because what’s been hidden will come to light.

Pisces (February 20 - March 20): Mercury is not retrograde in your sector of Work/Health, so you may feel a bit like your waters are trapped in a dam off and on for the next three weeks. You being mutable, will find ways over, under and around whatever obstacles come up but refrain from trying to find a higher meaning behind them; stuff just happens and sometimes it’s just mechanical. Wednesday’s New Moon in your sector of Creative Expression/Children clears the way for delightful company and fun with young ones, helping you resurrect that eternal child within yourself and engage in goofy activities. Hopefully you’re old enough to not care what other people think!
