Recent Items That Have Received Less Than Extensive Coverage in the Local Media

  • Green Party receives $10,000 from the County in connection with the bar code lawsuit, but the suit continues. See www.sjmedia.org for details.
  • Salary Commission meets – no raises for Randy Gaylord. Watch Friday Harbor Cable Public Access TV, Channel 19, at 9:30am for the April 21 meeting or go towww.sjmedia.org to download or watch the meeting.

Public Access TV shows County Council meetings. One can download or watch Council Meetings at www.sjmedia.org. So why is the County continuing to pay $200 per month to an outside firm to show the Council meetings on-line? Why does this firm continue to charge $20 to download copies of the Council meetings when one can download them for free at sjmedia? Why does the County continue to hold equipment that was purchased for public access four years ago? Why did they require Public Access to sign a contract (which Public Access wouldn't sign) giving the County veto rights over any programming and limiting programming only to local events?

Answer: See item 1 above. Public Access has been very critical of the way the County has handled the bar code question. Not handing over the purchased equipment to Public Access was an attempt to shut down PATV. PATV has not shut down. The bar code lawsuit is essentially over. What’s wrong with the County? It’s time to do the right thing!!
