Read what was happening 100 years ago in the March 21, 1913 issue of the San Juan Islander newspaper published from 1898 to 1914. The news: The governor's wife literally slammed the door in the face of legislators who attempted to drop off the Permanent Highway bill to the governor. On the second attempt, they threw the bill over her head into the house; she picked it up and kicked it into the yard. And a bill was passed to establish a minimum wage for female workers.
This year's photo of the Day series will be a bit different from last year's. The same rules - must be taken this year and in the county - apply with one exception. Once a week, a historical photo along with a link to a 1913 copy of San Juan Islander will be posted as the Photo of the Day. I hope you enjoy this new feature.
