This American psychological horror film, written and directed by Alan Parker, and starring Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro and Lisa Bonet, tells a story about a downtrodden private investigator instructed to meet an elegant, mysterious man. Roger Ebert gave the film three and a half stars out of four, saying “Angel Heart is a thriller and a horror movie, but most of all it’s an exuberant exercise in style, in which Parker and his actors have fun in taking it to the limit.”
This American psychological horror film, written and directed by Roman Polanski, and starring Mia Farrow, tells a story about a pregnant woman who fears that her husband may have made a pact with their eccentric neighbors. The movie was met with near universal acclaim from film critics and earned numerous nominations and awards. The American Film Institute ranked it number nine on their 100 Years … 100 Thrills List. And Variety stated “Several exhilarating milestones are achieved in “Rosemary’s Baby”, an excellent film version of Ira Levin’s diabolical chiller novel."
This Spanish-Language dark fantasy film, written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, tells a story that takes place in Spain in May-June 1944. The narrative of the movie interweaves this real world with a mythical world centered around an overgrown abandoned labyrinth and a mysterious faun creature. When released, the film won numerous international awards, including three Academy Awards. Mark Kermode, in the Observer, labeled “Pan’s Labyrinth” as the best film of 2006, describing it as “an epic, poetic vision in which the grim realities of war are matched and mirrored by a decent into an underworld populated by fearsomely beautiful monsters”.
The Prophecy II
This fantasy horror-thriller film, written and directed by Greg Spence, and starring Christopher Walken, is the second in the series of five. The movie tells the story of Archangel Gabriel returning to earth from hell to prevent the birth of the offspring of an angel and a human. In 1998, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films rated The Prophecy II as “The Year’s Most Suspenseful Thriller”, and Cine Fantastique praised the film for being “Intense … action packed! Walken steals the show!”
This American mystery thriller, directed by Taylor Hackford, and starring Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino and Charlize Theron, tells a story about a successful defense attorney in Gainesville, Florida who gets an offer from a New York law firm. On release, the film received generally favorable reviews, like, “The Devil’s Advocate is a mostly effective blend of supernatural thrills and character exploration”, and the film “is a highly enjoyable motion picture that’s part character study, part supernatural thriller, and part morality play".
