A Look Ahead
As is traditional this time of year after taking my look back last week, it’s time to take a look forward. One of the bigger changes in store for us in 2007 is with our ILS (Integrated Library System). This is what we use to catalog our materials, to check books in and out, to provide access to our online catalog, and a number of other vital functions. The system we have is a legacy system which means it is not being developed and is simply not a long term option. This will be a big change for everyone including staff, volunteers, and our patrons. We will put a lot of time into planning, preparation, and training to make it as smooth of a transition as possible. This will result in a significant improvement in our service. We will put renewed energy into adult programming. Responding to the priorities that were set in our long range plan and feedback received from our recent programming survey we will offer a wide range of exciting and educational programs and other services targeted at adults. As always and of course we will continue to offer and develop our children’s and teen programming. And now that the dust has truly and finally settled from the remodel we are looking around a little bit to evaluate the ways we have met our goal for the library and the ways we have not. We will see what we can do to fully reach our vision and to make our space as functional and comfortable as possible. I’m hesitant to call these our New Year’s resolutions, but they do speak to my commitment to move forward and introduce positive change. I guess that qualifies them as resolutions. Either way I am looking forward to a fun year full of expected as well as unexpected happenings here at the library!
