Books to Grow With
It’s that most wonderful time of the year! No, I’m not referring to the holiday season; I’m talking about the fair! Not only am I busy at home preparing my fair entries, we’re busy at the library preparing our fair booth. In keeping with the 2007 Bloom it and Groom it fair theme, we are celebrating books to grow with in the library booth. As has become traditional we will be your main source for library fair beads galore. However in order to earn your beads you will be required to write down the title of a book that made you grow. Sounds simple, huh? But when you start thinking about it, just how do you come up with a book made you grow? Is it the first book that made you fall in love with reading? A book that explained important truths to you? A book that inspired your career? A book that helped you mend a family relationship or your marriage? A book that set your spiritual path in life? A book that opened your world to travel? A book that challenged long held beliefs or assumptions? A book that empowered you to do something you never imagined possible? We’re hoping to have some interesting discussions about this. In our booth we will have a number of books displayed to get the juices going if you draw a blank. I’m still deciding my pick. Luckily you can come back each day to write down a different title (collecting a strand of beads each day!) so you will only have to narrow it down to four books instead of just one. Consider this your warning to start thinking now. We will also host a Fine Arts demonstration workshop on Friday from 12:30 to 3:00 on how to make a book. This activity is open for all ages. We will have all the supplies needed including lots of special papers and ribbons for you to walk away with your own handmade book. We’ll see you at the fair! |
