The Year Ahead

Just when you thought you had read your last column either highlighting the happenings of 2007 or making predictions about 2008, I'm sneaking in one more from the library!

Honestly it's hard for me to look back on 2007 and think of much else besides our new cataloging system. The move from our old system to our new system went great with many thanks due to our amazing Technology Specialist, Floyd Bourne, as well as all our staff and volunteers. Thanks also to our community for the feedback and enthusiasm for the new system. But we've probably all heard enough about that!

A few other highlights from 2007 include:

  • The successful completion our tbree-year financial audit from the state. Yippee!

  • Staffing: Linda retired! Great for her, but we still miss her. Jen Fleming and Camilla Woodbury worked as library interns. Ann Casey worked with us for too short of a time.

  • We lost long term board members Ruth Offen and Richard Civille. We gained new board members Marie Johansen and Lynn Weber/Roochvarg.

  • We moved the reference desk and circulation desk back together in a beautiful desk built by Mark Cunningham.

  • Floyd designed a new, fresh, and updated library website.

  • With work from Heidi Lewis and Jen Fleming and community input we developed new Job/Business collection

Looking ahead to 2008 I see us working to serve the community in new and important ways as we continue to meet our goals and objectives set in our long range plan:

  • With the Historical Museum, the Town, and the State Library we will begin to digitize and make available new resources from within our community

  • Improve communication and community connections online and in person.

  • Maximize use of our new cataloging system to improve access to the collection

  • And there will be a sidewalk to the library. This one isn't our doing; we can thank the Town and King Fitch for making this one happen!

I'm looking forward to what innovations and improved services 2008 will bring the library and our community!
