Ranker endorsed by Sierra Club and Washington Conservation Votersposted 10/26/04
"I'm proud that Washington Conservation Voters and Sierra Club have chosen to endorse me. They have always been strong advocates for responsible environmental stewardship - and that's critical for our islands," Ranker said. In their endorsement, the Sierra Club called Ranker a "great conservationist." "I believe that a strong community with empowered citizens is key to environmental stewardship. Communities that are thriving economically, with good family-wage jobs, are more likely to have citizens who have the time and energy to give back to their community and their environment. If elected, I'll work to make sure family-wage jobs that foster homeownership become a reality for everyone. Strengthening our communities and creating greater opportunity for environmental stewardship," Ranker said. "I've been proud to represent San Juan County's interests on the Northwest Straits Commission, formed by Senator Murray several years ago and fully supported by her today," Ranker said. "I share Senator Murray's deep commitment to these islands, and I hope I will have a chance to work with her on behalf of our County for all our federal needs." Larsen endorses Lichterposted 08/10/04 "San Juan County needs capable leadership to care for its environment, its economy, and its island way of life," Larsen stated. "I endorse Alan Lichter for County Commissioner." "I appreciate Congressman Larsen's vote of confidence," Lichter said after receiving the endorsement. "Rick has been an outstanding representative for the people of his district, and especially for all of us in San Juan County. I am very much looking forward to working with him on some of the critical issues that will affect our islands. As representatives of the same party, we have a unique opportunity for working cooperatively for the benefit of the San Juans." Lichter, who is running for the District 2 (Orcas) position on the Board of County Commissioners, has been an island resident for more than fifteen years, and previously had a distinguished career as a university professor in the United States, Sweden, Germany, and Poland, where he was also involved in mediation efforts during the anti-communist Solidarity uprising. Ranker is running as a Democrat for commissioner from District 1. Wendy Stephens is also running as a Democrat for the same position. Both candidates will be on the primary ballot, the winner will go on to the general election Nov. 2, 2004. Stephens raised questions about Larsen's endorsement last week. She said it was made in April before other candidates came forward. According to Stephens, Larsen's staff told her, Larsen would support her if she won the primary. After Stephens raised her questions, Larsen sent out the statement quoted above. Ranker endorsed by Larsen

Representing the 2nd District, Congressman Larsen is a lifetime resident of this area. "Congressman Larsen has a record of working hard for San Juan County, and all of the 2nd Congressional District.
