Superior Court Judge candidates' answer to first question

posted 07/09/2008
San Juan Islander's campaign coverage began with the following question to the candidates:

You are seeking election to a position in which you will be making or enforcing laws and/or regulations upon citizens.

Have you ever (as an adult) been convicted of a crime and/or in the case of the judicial candidates have you ever been found guilty of a breach of professional ethics by a judge or a bar association?

If the answer is yes, please explain the circumstances and how this will affect your ability to serve. The second part is: Have you filed all of the Public Disclosure Forms as required by law?

John O. Linde

Question 1: I am glad that you asked about sanctions imposed by judges and the Bar Association, as I have been told of rumor and innuendo being circulated and it is time to clear the air. The answer to your question is simply "No". No, I have not ever been found to have breached professional ethics and No, I have never been sanctioned for any reason by the Bar Association.

In my 35 years of private practice dealing with hundreds, if not thousands of clients, opposing parties and their attorneys, I have been the subject of a few bar complaints. Each complaint was, after full review and evaluation, dismissed as baseless. And, I have never been sanctioned by a judge for conduct during the course of litigation.

In the process of seeking Governor Gregoire's appointment as Judge, I identified each bar complaint for the Governor and her General Counsel. I discussed them specifically and in detail when I met personally with the Governor. In deciding who would be appointed as Judge, Governor Gregoire had the benefit of all of the facts.

Question 2: All of the required forms have been filed with the PDC.

Randall Gaylord

Q1: Conviction of Crimes etc. A: No.

Q2: Timely filing of PDC Reports.

A: Yes. Treasurer Doug Pearson reports that the Gaylord for Judge Campaign has deposited $10,010 from 43 contributors.
