Want to build a main house -- file papers by Feb. 9, 2001

posted 01/30/01
Does the moratorium on guest house construction affect property owners who built their guest house first and now want to build their principal residence? In order to answer that question a hearing will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 6, 2001 in the Inns at Friday Harbor.

On November 30, 2000, the Western Washington Growth Management Hearings Board entered an order banning new guest house construction in San Juan County. It is unclear if the order bans the construction of a principal residence when the property already has a guest house. County officials asked the hearings board to clarify its order.

"The Growth Board asked us to notify all property owners who may be unable to build the main house they planned," said Randall K. Gaylord, San Juan County Prosecutor. Interested property owners should contact Shannon Calverley at the San Juan County Prosecutor's Office at 360.378.4101 to request an information packet. The deadline for property owners to file papers with the Growth Board to obtain permission to participate in the hearing is noon on Friday, February 9, 2001.
