December 31

A 56-year-old Friday Harbor woman loaned a 35-year-old man $10,000 which he said he would pay back in three weeks. She contacted the sheriff's office after she was told by other people he had left town. She was told it was a civil matter.

A laptop was taken from the front desk of a Friday Harbor lodging facility.

December 30

Between Dec. 19 and Dec. 30 someone broke into the Animal Shelter's property on San Juan Island. They were only able to get into the back of the kennels. No property was damaged or taken.

A 38-year-old Friday Harbor man reported damage to the 1996 Ford belonging to his 68-year-old father. Someone scratched deragotory names into the paint.

December 28

Someone broke a bathroom window of a Lopez Island home belonging to a Bellevue man. Nothing appeared to be taken.

A 60-year-old Eastsound man reported receiving hang up calls from Blue Cross in New Jersey. A deputy investigated. It turned out to be an automated dialing service by Blue Cross. He requested the ES man be put on a no-call list.

A 45-year-old Lopez Island woman was cited for maintaining a dog as a nuisance after a 50-year-old woman reported the dog came off its property and aggressively barked at her. The dog's owner had been cited before for letting the dog run at large.

A 48-year-old Branford, Connecticut man retrieved his wallet after it was found in a parking lot by an employee of the Big Store and taken to the sheriff's office.

An abandoned bicycle was taken to the sheriff's office.

December 27

A 54-year-old man arrested on three counts of criminal trespass.

Someone hit a storage building on Three Corner Lake Road with a vehicle causing damage to the building and its contents.

A 60-year-old Friday Harbor woman reported a 49-year-old Friday Harbor woman made harassing phone calls to her regarding a civil matter. The younger woman had been previously warned to stop.

A San Juan Island man found a wallet by the ferry landing containing ID and valuables. He took it to the sheriff's office. The owner, an 18-year-old Friday Harbor man picked it up.

December 25

A 54-year-old Friday Harbor man was trespassed from a Friday Harbor convenience store after he refused to leave. He was harassing customers and employees after the employees refused to sell him beer. He was told he would be arrested if he returned to the property.

December 23

Damage was observed at a telephone pedestal on Mount Baker Road. An investigation to the hit and run continues.

A wallet containing $60 was handed over to a deputy after it was found by a citizen in a store's parking lot. The owner's girlfriend picked it up at the Orcas Island sheriff's substation later.

A 29-year-old Eastsound man was arrested for stealing a blue chevy pickup truck belonging to a 65-year-old Eastsound man. The truck was discovered severely damaged upside down in a ditch on Dec. 22.

December 22

A 54-year-old woman reported her mailbox was hit by a vehicle. The impact threw the box and post into an adjacent field. The mail was scattered.

A 48 -year-old man's Dodge truck sustained $1,000 damage when it was parked in Eastsound.

A 46-year-old Friday Harbor woman was cited for second-degree driving while license suspended or revoked and traffic infractions.

A bike belonging to a 38-year-old Friday Harbor man was taken from his front porch and found in a nearby ditch with damage to the front-end brakes.

A 22-year-old Friday Harbor man returned home and found his home rummaged through and $3,000 in cash missing.

December 21

A mailbox valued at $200 was stolen from a Pear Point Road residence. This is the second time a mailbox at the same location has been stolen this year. The residents requested extra patrols of the area.

A 17-year-old Friday Harbor boy was arrested for driving while under the influence of intoxicants and driving without a valid drivers license.

A 37-year-old Eastsound man arrested for driving while under the influence of intoxicants.

A 61-year-old Friday Harbor man reported the theft of a flag and flagpole mounted over the walkway to his front door.

December 20

A 43-year-old Lopez Island woman was arrested for driving while under the influence of intoxicants after the vehicle she was driving was observed repeatedly crossing the centerline.

December 19

A 60-year-old Friday Harbor woman called to report a 49-year-old woman had called her more than 50 times that day regarding a civil matter and refused to stop.

A 65-year-old Eastsound man reported the theft of two large bags containing 50 dozen oysters.

December 15

Someone stole a riding lawnmower from a Lopez Island property belonging to a Seattle woman.

December 14

A 37-year-old Friday Harbor woman was hit by a car as she crossed the street at Mullis and Spring. A silver or grey 4-door car came around the corner, did not yield and hit her. She was struck by the left front fender and hood. The car did not stop. The car was turning north off of Mullis onto Spring Street when it hit her. She described the car as the size of a Honda. She went to the sheriff's office to report the incident.

December 8

A 27-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested because of a warrant as he walked off the ferry in Friday Harbor. Additional charges are likely as he had in his possession a baggy containing a substance which tested positive for amphetamines.

December 7

Deputies responded to a hit and run accident on Tucker Avenue. STORY

A residential burglary was reported on Harrison Street. The caretakers found a broken basement window and the backdoor unlocked. The couple was positive the door was locked when they had left. Nothing appeared to have been taken. An investigation is continuing.

A 52-year-old Friday Harbor man reported his Yellow Land Rover was stolen from the upper Port Parking lot.

December 6

A 27-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested for possible second-degree robbery.

A burglar took a 3500 watt Honda generator and two red gas cans from a home on Bailey Road on San Juan Island. An investigation is continuing.

December 5

A deputy called to remove an unwanted person, found the 21-year-old Friday Harbor man extremely intoxicated acting irrationally in front of the building. The deputy confiscated the knife the man was carrying and drove the man home.

December 4

An Eastsound man checking on a residence belonging to a Colorado woman discovered a 28-year-old Orcas man had been staying there illegally. A GMC Yukon was missing from the residence.

December 3

A BMW belonging to a Lopez Island woman sustained $2000 worth of damage while it was parked at the Orcas ferry landing parking lot.

A theft of $28.97 was reported at a Eastsound restaurant.

While patrolling the Airport parking lot, deputies discovered two vehicles with broken windows. The contents of the cars were undisturbed. The owners were notified.

The backdoor of Vic's restaurant was broken and a laptop computer removed from the office.

December 1

Four vehicles were vandalized while parked in a lot at 9000 Roche Harbor Road. Another vehicle was stolen. An investigation into the vandalism is continuing.

Deputies investigated an open window at a house on Harrison Street. The screen had been removed and curtains were hanging out of the open window. The front door was unlocked. The house was searched but nothing appeared to be disturbed. When the deputies tried to lock up the house, they discovered the garage door wouldn't latch properly. The owners were contacted and the wife said her husband would be up on the afternoon ferry to repair the garage door.
