Jan. 29 A 28-year-old Friday Harbor woman’s employer posted $1,100 bail for her after she was arrested for a warrant regarding an abandoned junk vehicle. A 29-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested for violation of court ordered conditions including not consuming alcohol. Jan. 27 A 44-year-old Lopez Island man, stopped for speeding, was arrested because of a felony warrant from Oregon. Jan. 24 Someone loosened the locking hardware bolts from the gate at Friday Harbor Post Office. A deputy responding to an alarm, checked the building and secured the area. Someone entered the outbuilding housing the TV antennae for a San Juan Island homeowner’s association. A deputy responded and plugged the system back in. Someone stole a 16-year-old Friday Harbor boy’s bicycle from the High School. Jan. 23 A 19-year-old Friday Harbor woman was cited for third-degree driving while license suspended and speeding and for not having insurance. A 46-year-old Friday Harbor woman’s Honda Element was scratched when it was parked at a Friday Harbor grocery store. There were two-foot long scratches on the front and back doors. Jan. 22 A 17-year-old Olga woman reported her 20-year-old ex-boyfriend had violated a protection order by telephoning and emailing her. A 20-year-old Friday Harbor man was driving his 18-year old friend’s car when stopped by deputy. They attempted to change seats. The 20-year-old was cited for second-degree driving while license suspended. A 36-year-old Marblemount man and a 52-year-old Marblemount woman were arrested when they were seen taking items from cars at Orcas ferry terminal. They were also arrested on outstanding warrants from Skagit County. $320 in groceries, a bag of clothing and five compact disks were recovered. A 17-year-old Friday Harbor girl reported her purse was stolen from the high school library while she was using a computer. Jan. 21 A highly intoxicated 43 year old Eastsound woman reported someone tackled her in the field between Orcas High School and Buck field while she was walking home from a bar. She was i her left leg was injured. Declined medical treatment. A 28-year-old Eastsound man’s vheicle was damaged while parked on Main Street. Jan. 20 A 34-year--old Friday Harbor man was arrested on outstanding warrants. A caretaker reported a large lantern that was hanging from a piece of driftwood in front of an Eastsound residence. A Victoria, BC man was suspected of making harassing phone calls to a Friday Harbor man. An asthma inhaler was taken from the medicine locker at Lopez Elementary school. Jan. 19 A Friday Harbor man and a Conway contractor had a dispute over a roofing job. Deputies stood by while the roofer and crew left. The dispute will be dealt with in civil court. A 38-year-old Lopez Island man was taken into custody after turning himself in at sheriff’s office because of two outstanding warrants. Jan. 18 Deputies were called to the scene of a vehicle fire on Price Street after the owner became upset when fire personnel wouldn’t let him enter the vehicle due to the hazardous smoke. Jan. 17 A 43-year-old Friday Harbor man reported all of the windows on the passenger side, front and back of his van were smashed out while it was parked in front of his Argyle Avenue residence. He suspected the vandalism would have been done by a 41-year-old Friday Harbor man he had an altercation with earlier in the evening. Jan 17 Several young girls threw household garbage onto an 18-year-old Eastsound man’s car. After their parents were contacted, the girls returned and cleaned up the mess. An Oak Harbor man was arrested because of an Department of Correctons warrant. He was transported to Monroe State Penitentiary. Jan. 16 A 28-year-old Friday Harbor man stopped for expired plates, had no insurance, and his license had been suspended. He was cited for first-degree driving while license was suspended or revoked, A 42-year-old Friday Harbor man drove to the fairgrounds to call dispatch after a 27-year-old Friday Harbor woman took his cellphone and wouldn’t leave his house. There is a no contact order in effect, prohibiting her from contacting him. Deputies were called after a 49-year-old man was discovered passed out in his stalled out car at a Friday Harbor gas station. Aid units responded. He was arrested for driving under the influence. At the sheriff’s office his BAC test showed a level of .255. He was driving with a suspended license as a result of a previous dui. |

Undersheriff Jon Zerby said there was no sign of foul play. Shaffer's family is flying up from South America. Funeral services are planned for Friday, Jan. 13. |

Jan. 14 A Lopez Island couple went to a home on Dill Road after the husband’s younger brother called to say he wasn’t feeling well. They found him vomiting and highly intoxicated on alcohol and mushrooms. Other young people had been there. A 55-year-old Friday Harbor man’s Toyota van was damaged while parked on Spring Street. The rear passenger door was caved in and the window broken. Whoever hit the car left the scene. A 57-year-old Friday Harbor man was found highly intoxicated underneath a park bench. A 16-year-old Friday Harbor boy was arrested for a narcotics violation after a traffic accident on Marguerite street. Three juveniles were seen leaving the scene. Two were apprehended and charged. During a check on behalf of the Dept. of Corrections, a deputy saw a large trash can filled with beer bottles and cans at the home of a 35-year-old Friday Harbor. He was not supposed to consume alcohol under the terms of his probation. The deputy reminded him of the conditions and gave a report to the DOC officer. Jan. 13 A 17-year-old Eastsound boy was out past his curfew. He told a deputy he was going to call for a ride home. He was seen again half an hour later. Report forwarded to PA office. A 21- year-old Friday Harbor man turned self in because of an outstanding warrant after his grandmother was contacted by a deputy. A silver Dodge Ram truck was stolen from the Orcas Ferry landing. The keys had been left on the floor. A person suspected in multiple thefts and burglaries is suspected of taking the vehicle. The i nvestigation is continuing. A 57-year-old Nevada man was found highly intoxicated again. He told deputies he had no where to stay, his family had dumped him in Friday Harbor. He was suspected of breaking a window in the liquor store on New Year’s Day. He was taken into protective custody. Jan. 12 A 17-year-old Friday Harbor boy was arrrested after an assault on another student at Friday Harbor High School. A 28-year-old man was in the county clerk’s office getting copies of papers in a legal matter when he was arrested because of a felony warrant from Jefferson County. A 25-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested for hit and run while he was being served with a protection order. A 31-year-old woman celebrating her birthday on Lopez Island left her purse open next to the pinball machine. Her wallet was taken. Jan. 10 A 58-year-old Friday Harbor man reported bills he sent out did not arrive at their destination. A State Park Ranger reported a green and white Seadoo Bombardier GTX was abandoned at Deadman’s Cove. A 53-year old Friday Harbor woman reported damage to her Kia while it was parked on Spring Street. The front righ corner and headlight were damaged. Jan. 10 An 18-year-old Eastsound woman reported her Acura sustained $750 to $1000 damage when it was parked at the Post Office. Jan. 9 A 47-year-old Eastsound man was cited for open container and having an expired vehicle registration. Someone used a black felt marker to put graffiti on the walls of the Eastsound Post Office and at the Seaview Theatre. A dog belonging to a 42-year-old Stuart Island man killed eight sheep including a ram and pregnant ewes. The sheep owner, a 56-year-old Stuart Island man wants to press charges agains the dog owner. Jan 8 A 58-year-old woman reported $45 to $50 missing from a money bag at her work. January 5 A 48-year-old Friday Harbor woman reported finding a men’s bicycle. It was taken to the sheriff's office. January 4 Deputies did a welfare check on a man sleeping on the ground near the Port of Friday Harbor bathrooms. The 57-year-old Henderson, Nevada man was very intoxicated. He said he was visiting his sone but was not allowed to stay there anymore. He was taken into protective custody. A 20-year-old Eastsound man was arrested because of a warrant. January 3 A car was keyed while the owner, a 59-year-old Friday Harbor man, was at the movies. A Friday Harbor man and a Friday Harbor woman both reported scratches on their cars. The damage occurred while the vehicles were parked at Friday Harbor airport. January 2 A large rock was thrown at the liquor store in Friday Harbor. The safety glass remained intact. An 80-year-old Eastsound woman’s car was damaged while she worked out at the gym. Furniture and garbage were dumped on Lawson Road. A 53-year-old Eastsound woman failed to set the brake on her car when she exited. It rolled into Bilbos Restaurant. January 1 An 25-year-old Friday Harbor man drove onto an 18-year-old Friday Harbor man’s property and rammed a parked vehicle. He then fled the scene. The investigation continues. |
