Jan. 31, 2002 A 75-year-old woman checking on her neighbor's house while they were out of town found loud music playing and a glass of wine on the table. No one was there when deputies arrived. Jan. 30 A 15 year-old Friday Harbor girl was arrested on forgery and attempted third-degree theft after she attempted to cash a check at a bank. Jan. 26 Someone removed a black bag from a 28-year-old Eastsound woman's Nissan Pathfinder while it was parked in Eastsound. The bag contained a rubber chicken, cribbage board, domino set, magic 8 ball toys, $100 cash, credit cards and yo yos. She had locked the drivers door and forgotten to lock her passenger door. A 41-year-old Eastsound woman reported her car stereo was stolen from her chevy van while it was parked in front of her home. A 42-year-old Eastsound woman reported her purse was stolen from inside her home. No signs of forced entry. The investigation continues. |
Friday Harbor man's death investigatedposted 01/24/02
An autopsy was performed at the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office, which performs work for San Juan County, said San Juan County Sheriff Bill Cumming. The investigation is continuing as the Sheriff's Office and Randy Gaylord, San Juan County coroner, are awaiting toxicology reports from the Washington State Crime Lab, Cumming said. An 18-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested on outstanding warrants. A 49-year-old Orcas Island man reported a window had been broken on his travel trailer parked in his parents' back yard Jan. 21, 2002
Concerned friends and family called the sheriff's office after receiving calls from a 42-year-old Friday Harbor man who said he was going to commit suicide. Deputies found the man at his home and he was airlifted to the mainland. Two bags were found on the sidewalk the corner of Blair and Spring Streets. containing toilet items and clothing. The are at the sheriff's office. A Friday Harbor man beached his canoe on Fourth of July Beach on Jan. 18. When he returned it was gone. It is 17-feet 4 inches long, all red with four Yellowstone National Park stickers on the stern. Jan. 19, 2002

An investigation is continuing into the death of a 43-year-old Friday Harbor man. He was discovered in the bathroom of his residence. An Orcas Island man reported his wallet stolen. He found it later in his notebook. Jan. 17, 2002
No one was seriously injured when this van flipped on Cattle Point Road just south of Little Road Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002. FHHS senior Kevin Pope was driving his sister and a friend in the Dodge Caravan when the tire hit the edge of the road. The car flipped after he swerved to avoid an oncoming truck as he was trying to regain control. "Seatbelts work," he said. A 38-year-old Lopez Island man charged with driving under the influence after a single-vehicle accident on Mud Bay Rd. Someone broke into a Friday Harbor restaurant and took $180 cash. An 18-year-old Lynden man was cited for not having a valid operator's license, minor in possession and having an open container of alcohol. A 30-year-old wanted to file a report to document cases of alleged harassment. A 38-year-old Friday Harbor man stopped on Roche Harbor Road after a car flashed his headlights at him. The other driver approached his car and accused him of being drunk and speeding. The Friday Harbor man told him to leave him alone. The man refused. A scuffle ensued. The man went to his truck, opened the canopy and picked up what appeared to be a rifle. The Friday Harbor man heard the gun being cocked. The man did not take the rifle out of the truck, instead he yelled some more and drove off. The Friday Harbor man did not recognize the man or his vehicle. Jan. 5, 2002
A 43-year-old Friday Harbor woman filed a runaway pickup report. She is going to Kansas to pick up her 17-year-old daughter who was seen there on Jan. 2, 2002. A 54-year-old Friday Harbor man recently released from jail reported harassment by a 25-year-old Friday Harbor man. The younger man was angry about some tools which were sold and said he would plant evidence on the man's property to send him back to jail. The older man told deputies he has no desire to return to jail. A 23-year-old Friday Harbor woman told deputies a 20-year-old Friday Harbor male had struck her three times. She refused medical treatment. Attempts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful. An investigation is continuing. Jan. 4, 2002 A 41-year-old Friday Harbor woman filed a report after someone scraped her name off her mailbox. She suspects her soon-to-be ex-husband did it. Deputies responded to a dispute between a 37-year-old woman and her 15 year-old daughter. The mother did not want the girl to smoke in the house and was afraid she would run away if she went outside. The two agreed to work things out. Two and a half hours later the mother called the sheriff's office to report the daughter had runaway. Jan. 3, 2002

A mother questioned her 14-year-old Friday harbor son about jewelry in his possession. After he admitted shoplifting it, she took him to the store and to the sheriff's office to turn himself in.
