25-year-old Friday Harbor man reported chainsaw, screw gun and a rifle were stolen out of the back of his pickup truck when it was parked in his drive way on San Juan drive. The items were in the bed of his truck under the canopy top.

A 75-year-old woman checking on her neighbor's house while they were out of town found loud music playing and a glass of wine on the table. No one was there when deputies arrived.

Jan. 30

A 15 year-old Friday Harbor girl was arrested on forgery and attempted third-degree theft after she attempted to cash a check at a bank.

Jan. 26
A 39-year-old Friday Harbor woman reported being assaulted by a 37-year-old Friday Harbor man.

Someone removed a black bag from a 28-year-old Eastsound woman's Nissan Pathfinder while it was parked in Eastsound. The bag contained a rubber chicken, cribbage board, domino set, magic 8 ball toys, $100 cash, credit cards and yo yos. She had locked the drivers door and forgotten to lock her passenger door.

A 39-year-old Sagle, Idaho man parked his car overnight by the old Mark and Pak building. Someone broke into the car and stole $1,800 worth of items.

Jan. 28
A 72-year-old Friday Harbor man scraped snow off his car and discovered the windshield was broken. A deputy found a large triangular rock which matched the impact marks on the windshield on the ground nearby.

Jan. 25
A 16-year-old JFriday Harbor girl was pulled over after a deputy observed a passenger in her car using a bullhorn out the window with a siren activated. None of the passengers claimed ownership of the bullhorn. It was confiscated. The driver was issued verbal warnings for the siren, for not having a driver's license in her possession and for not wearing a seatbelt.

A 41-year-old Eastsound woman reported her car stereo was stolen from her chevy van while it was parked in front of her home.

A 42-year-old Eastsound woman reported her purse was stolen from inside her home. No signs of forced entry. The investigation continues.

Friday Harbor man's death investigated

A 43-year-old Friday Harbor man's death last week is being investigated as suspicious. Chester "Chet" Haney, 43, was found dead in his home Friday, Jan. 18, 2002.

An autopsy was performed at the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office, which performs work for San Juan County, said San Juan County Sheriff Bill Cumming. The investigation is continuing as the Sheriff's Office and Randy Gaylord, San Juan County coroner, are awaiting toxicology reports from the Washington State Crime Lab, Cumming said.

Two arrested after string of restaurant burglaries

Deputies arrested two people in connection with a recent string of burglaries at Friday Harbor Restaurants. Bail for Curtis Siegfried, 19, was set at $5,000 for charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree theft at a probable cause hearing Jan. 14, 2002. A juvenile male was also arrested in the case.

A 48-year-old man reported damage to a fence.

44-year-old Eastsound man was arrested on outstanding warrant.

Jan. 23
A 79-year-old Friday Harbor man returned home and found someone had broken into his guest house and was living there.

A 17-year-old Friday Harbor woman turned herself in and was arrested on outstanding warrant.

Two women reported an assault on San Juan Island.

A 22-year-old Mount Vernon woman wrote two checks on a closed account to a Friday Harbor shoe store. A letter has been sent asking for restitution.

An 18-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested on outstanding warrants.

A 49-year-old Orcas Island man reported a window had been broken on his travel trailer parked in his parents' back yard

A 25-year-old Friday Harbor man was cited for speeding and third-degree driving with license suspended or revoked.

Concerned friends and family called the sheriff's office after receiving calls from a 42-year-old Friday Harbor man who said he was going to commit suicide. Deputies found the man at his home and he was airlifted to the mainland.

Two bags were found on the sidewalk the corner of Blair and Spring Streets. containing toilet items and clothing. The are at the sheriff's office.

A Friday Harbor man beached his canoe on Fourth of July Beach on Jan. 18. When he returned it was gone. It is 17-feet 4 inches long, all red with four Yellowstone National Park stickers on the stern.

A 28-year-old Friday Harbor woman's 2000 Chevy Astro sustained $750 damage when it was parked sometime in the previous two days.

A 37-year-old Lynden man was arrested for third-degree driving while license suspended or revoked, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a dangerous weapon (switchblade).

Deputies arrested a 16-year-old Friday Harbor girl on a juvenile warrant and turned her over to state juvenile authorities at the ferry landing.juvenile warrant arrest.

An investigation is continuing into the death of a 43-year-old Friday Harbor man. He was discovered in the bathroom of his residence.

An Orcas Island man reported his wallet stolen. He found it later in his notebook.

No one was seriously injured when this van flipped on Cattle Point Road just south of Little Road Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002. FHHS senior Kevin Pope was driving his sister and a friend in the Dodge Caravan when the tire hit the edge of the road. The car flipped after he swerved to avoid an oncoming truck as he was trying to regain control. "Seatbelts work," he said.

A 48-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested on a bench warrant, probation violation and violation of a no-contact order.

A 52-year-old Friday Harbor man reported a residential burglary. Someone took $30 cash from a desk drawer in his house.

A 52-year-old Arlington man did not show up for a trial in Superior Court. His $15,000 bail was revoked and a bail-jumping charge was added to his charges.

Someone broke into a Friday Harbor restaurant.

A 44-year-old Friday Harbor woman reported her cell phone was stolen after she received her bill showing calls she hadn't made.

A 38-year-old Lopez man had a score of .221 and .226 on a breathalyzer test after a single car accident on Mud Bay Road. He was cited for driving under the influence and for having a non-injury traffic accident.

A 25-year-old Eastsound woman was cited for second-degree driving with license suspended or revoked.

Someone broke into a Friday Harbor restaurant and took $180 cash.

A 16-year-old Friday Harbor boy was pulled over after he failed to stop at a stop sign on the corner of Spring and Argyle. He had four passengers in his car which is against the rules for a driver with an intermediate license. The passengers were told they had to walk. They left. Deputies discovered two cases of beer in the van and the boy was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and failure to stop at stop sign, and violation of intermediate driver's license. He told deputies the beer belonged to the passengers but he did not know their names.

An 18-year-old Lynden man was cited for not having a valid operator's license, minor in possession and having an open container of alcohol.

A 30-year-old wanted to file a report to document cases of alleged harassment.

A 38-year-old Friday Harbor man stopped on Roche Harbor Road after a car flashed his headlights at him. The other driver approached his car and accused him of being drunk and speeding. The Friday Harbor man told him to leave him alone. The man refused. A scuffle ensued. The man went to his truck, opened the canopy and picked up what appeared to be a rifle. The Friday Harbor man heard the gun being cocked. The man did not take the rifle out of the truck, instead he yelled some more and drove off. The Friday Harbor man did not recognize the man or his vehicle.

A 19-year-old Friday Harbor man was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and violation of pre-trial release conditions after a deputy observed him holding a beer bottle on Web Street. The man refused to take a breathalyzer test.

A 43-year-old Friday Harbor woman filed a runaway pickup report. She is going to Kansas to pick up her 17-year-old daughter who was seen there on Jan. 2, 2002.

A 54-year-old Friday Harbor man recently released from jail reported harassment by a 25-year-old Friday Harbor man. The younger man was angry about some tools which were sold and said he would plant evidence on the man's property to send him back to jail. The older man told deputies he has no desire to return to jail.

A 23-year-old Friday Harbor woman told deputies a 20-year-old Friday Harbor male had struck her three times. She refused medical treatment. Attempts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful. An investigation is continuing.

Jan. 4, 2002 A 41-year-old Friday Harbor woman filed a report after someone scraped her name off her mailbox. She suspects her soon-to-be ex-husband did it.

Deputies responded to a dispute between a 37-year-old woman and her 15 year-old daughter. The mother did not want the girl to smoke in the house and was afraid she would run away if she went outside. The two agreed to work things out. Two and a half hours later the mother called the sheriff's office to report the daughter had runaway.

A 37-year-old Eastsound man found his door kicked in and computer components missing when he returned home.

A 13-year-old Friday Harbor girl was cited for third-degree theft after she took two stickers from a store on Spring Street.

A 59-year-old said someone removed a heavy-duty winch from a car trailer parked at his residence sometime in October.

A cell phone found on San Juan valley Road was turned in to the sheriff's office.

A mother questioned her 14-year-old Friday harbor son about jewelry in his possession. After he admitted shoplifting it, she took him to the store and to the sheriff's office to turn himself in.

A 40-year-old Eastsound man was arrested for driving under the influence after he a roll over accident on Crescent Beach Road. He sustained minor injuries.
