A 26-year-old San Juan Island man was airlifted by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter to Harborview Medical Center after his vehicle crashed on Roche Harbor Road shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. SJ EMC Chief Jim Cole said a Coast Guard helicopter was used because Airlift Northwest was busy transporting a cardiac patient from the island. Cole accompanied the injured driver to the hospital.

According to the San Juan County Deputy at the scene, ice did not appear to have been a factor in the crash. It looks like the wheels caught the edge of the roadway, the car then ended up flipped over on the opposite side of the road. SJ EMS, San Juan Island Fire Dept. and the county Sheriff deputies responded to the crash scene.

Because of the HIPPA privacy act, no word was available on the condition of the patient.
