New hours for transfer stations begin next week
Plan ahead for your trip to the dump. The hours the San Juan and Orcas Island transfer stations will be open the public change beginning Dec. 29. Both facilities will be open to the public from 10 am to 4 pm Wednesday through Sunday. They will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays and also on legal holidays. So for the coming week, the transfer station will be open Wednesday Dec. 31, Friday, Jan. 2, Saturday, Jan. 3 and Sunday, Jan. 4.
Transfer stations to be open weekends

Beginning on December 29, 2003 the Orcas and San Juan Transfer Stations will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. The sites will be closed to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays. The change was discussed at county Solid Waste Advisory Committee meetings earlier this year. Committee members said customers have asked for more weekend hours. By closing to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays, the change can be made without adding staff. While the facilities will be closed to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays, they will be open to commercial haulers.
