During the month of March six San Juan County residents participated in extensive training in food safety and food preservation. The training included hands-on waterbath and pressure canning labs, and classes given by WSU Food Science Specialists on food safety and food-borne illnesses.

In exchange for this training, Food Safety Advisors volunteer in our community by conducting workshops, organizing activities, and providing one-on-one assistance with advice and answers to food safety and food preservation questions. This graduating class brings the total of trained Food Safety Advisors in San Juan County to 15 individuals, representing Shaw, Orcas, Lopez and San Juan Islands.

To receive more information about this program or to speak with a Food Safety Advisor, call the WSU Cooperative Extension Office at 360-378-4414. WSU Cooperative Extension programs are available to everyone. Attachment Converted: "C:\EUDORA\Attach\FSA1.jpeg.jpg"
