Decorating prizes awarded

Friday Harbor Inn took the Grand Prize in the Chamber of Commerce 2005 decorating contest.

The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce judged the annual decorating contest in Friday Harbor. The winners are:

  • GRAND PRIZE ($1,000) - The Friday Harbor Inn

BEST IN CATEGORY ($225 EACH):

  • Best Decorated Door - Tight Squeeze
  • Best Decorated Window - Vic's
  • Most Natural - Robin's Nest
  • Most Creative - Islanders Bank

Special Recognition ($100 EACH):

  • The Toggery
  • Downriggers
  • Rocky Bay Cafe
  • Friday's Historic Inn
  • Countrywide Home Loans

Suzie Mopeds rides off with prize

The $1,000 grand prize for the "Island Lights" contest in Friday Harbor went to Susie Mopeds. The brightly lit shop at the top of the ferry parking lot beat 26 other entries in the contest sponsored by the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce.

The winner in the Creative category was Hawley-Nicholson office at 880 Guard Street. The best representation of the theme was Friday Harbor Inn at 410 Spring Street. Vics Drive In won for best window. The prize for Most Natural went to Adagio Design at 189 First St.

Friday Harbor Center, Front Street Cafe and Friday Harbor Village apartments won honorable mention.

And the winners are...

Friday Harbor Historic Inn won the prize in the traditional category.

San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Christmas decorating contest this year. Three judges reviewed the entries Sunday evening (Nov. 30, 2003).

Best Overall Grand Prize winner was the Friday Harbor Village Apartments at 445 Carter Avenue.

Printonyx won for Best Window

Dolphin Arts on First Street won in the Theme category.

Most Original - Big Daddy's

Honorable Mention - Islanders Bank

Town Council member Bill LaPorte, Chamber of Commerce member Cathy Cavanagh and Friday Harbor High School ASB representative Karen Morill selected the winners.

Best Overall-Grand Prize - Friday Harbor Village Apts.

Best Theme - Dolphin Arts

Best Traditional - Friday's Historic Inn

Best decorated Window - Printonyx

Most Original - Big Daddy's

Honorable Mention - Islander's Bank

The Chamber gave a special thanks to the Town of Friday Harbor and the San Juan County Visitor Bureau for providing the funding for the new Christmas Tree of Lights on the flagpole at Memorial Park.
