"Rock the Dock" returns

posted 06/24/04
Get out your blue suede shoes for the whole family!! Saturday, July 4th, the Timebenders show band takes a break from their busy convention schedule, and returns to the Friday Harbor waterfront with their All-Ages Rock and Roll Revival, featuring appearances by Elvis, Buddy Holly, the Beach Boys, the Blues Brothers, Madonna, the Supremes, and many other of the biggest stars of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. This is a great event for the whole family !

The event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of the San Juans, runs from 6:00 until the fireworks start at 10:15 at the waterfront. Admission is free for under 16 with adult, $10 for adults.

The food service will include pork sandwiches, ceasar salad wraps, fresh berries and cream, hot dogs, and kettle corn. Beverage service will include soft drinks, and beer and wine.

There is ample seating available to watch the show, and plenty of room for dancing when your feet just can't resist the urge.

Now in their 11th year, the Timebenders' tributes and hilarious impersonations have sounded a chord with audiences throughout North America. In addition to a successful run on the Las Vegas strip, they've performed at the home of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the Napa Valley Winery of film director Francis Ford Coppola and on board a chartered ocean liner for the World Presidents Organization. They've also made stops in West Palm Beach, New Orleans, San Francisco, as well as several stints in Hawaii.

The reason for their success? Founder Tom Watson says, "it's about finding a good core group of talent and personalities that mix well on and off the stage, doing the music live - no sequencing, and constantly tweaking the product to deliver fresh energetic fun for each show."

Outfitted with drums, bass, two guitars, keyboards and saxophone and a total of seven vocalists, the 'Timebenders' recreate the incredible sounds of each and every era they visit. This journey will carry audiences through the sights and sounds of the 40's right through to the '90s.

"That's another ingredient for success," says Watson, "there's so much visual activity on stage, that even if you're not much for dancing, it's loads of fun just to watch!"

Mike Close, event coordinator for the Rotary Club of the San Juan Islands, said, "We have people coming to see this band from all over the region. The band's impressions are hilarious and they really get the audience involved with the show, it's a great family event."

Indeed, people can't seem to get enough of this high-energy show, many of the Washington Regional and County Fairs ask them to return year after year, it has proven to be a hit with people of all ages and is a great way to spend this holiday with your family.
