Friday Harbor's 2004 Independence Day parade included the largest number of entries ever - 51 - according to Pat O'Day. He announced the awards at the Pig War Picnic held on the grounds of the San Juan Island Historical Museum.

Not Just Desserts won the Best Float award. The restaurant, owned by Kevin and Diana Porter, is located on Spring Street.

Judges' Choice - San Juan Seniors

Best Float - Not Just Desserts

Best Spirit - Paideia School

Best Theme - Islanders Bank

Best Costume - San Juan Community Theatre

Best Drill Team - Rennick Tae Kwan Do

Best Musical entry - Community Marching Band

Best Animal entry - Wolf Hollow

Best Vehicle - Alfred Cummins.

Best Kids float - Stepping Stones

The theme for the 2004 Independence Day parade in Friday Harbor was "Way Back When". Islanders Bank won the Best Theme award.

Paideia School won the Best Spirit award and $200.

The San Juan Island Community Marching Band, led by drum major David Eden, won the Best Musical award. Friday Harbor High School band teacher Janet Olson organizes the community band. They have three or four rehearsals, don t-shirts donated by Kings Market and hit the street.


Rennick Tae Kwan Do Studio won the Best Drill Team award.


San Juan Community Theatre won the Best Costume award and $100. Their entry included cast members of "Hello, Dolly!" and "The LIttle Prince."


San Juan Seniors won the Judges' Choice award

Wolf Hollow won the Best Animal prize.
