Independence Day celebration plans in full swing

Fourth of July in the San Juans includes parades, fireworks displays, music and of course mention of the Pig War. We have compiled a list of activities on Lopez, Orcas and San Juan Island.
ROCHE HARBOR
Saturday, July 3, 2004
- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artist Booths Open
- 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. "Artists in Action" at the Sculpture Park
- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mike Cohen's "Sugar on the Floor" - on the Plaza
- 2 to 5 p.m. "Mellow Sounds" with Ian Byington - on the Plaza
- 9:30 p.m. to 1a.m. "My Three Jim's" - in Madrona Bar &Grill

LOPEZ ISLAND
FRIDAY, JULY 2
- 7:30 p.m. Sizzling Summer Series at Lopez Center with the Music of Benares. MORE INFORMATION
SATURDAY, JULY 3
- Sizzling Summer Series at Lopez Center presents: an outdoor concert (weather permitting) featuring the Laura Love Duo at 7 pm and Them Swamp Doggies at 6 pm. MORE INFORMATION
SUNDAY, JULY 4
- 8:30 a.m. Lions Club Fun Run. 5k walk & 10k run. Register at Lopez Community Center at 8:30 a.m. the race will begin at Windemere. The info for the race has been corrected since it was first posted.
- 11 a.m. Lopez Island's parade begins at Woodmans Hall and concludes in Lopez Village. The year's theme is The Fabric of Community.
- Immediately after the parade the annual salmon barbeque takes place on the Community Center grounds.
- After dark The Lopez fireworks, considered by many to be the best in the county, will be shot off over Fisherman's Bay.
ORCAS ISLAND
SATURDAY, JULY 3
- 10 a.m. Historical Days celebration begins with food and crafts in the Village Green in Eastsound.
- noon Historical Days Parade in Eastsound.
- After 10 p.m. Fireworks display at Deer Harbor.
SUNDAY, JULY 4
- 6:30 p.m. Annual Picnic in the Park.
- 8 p.m. Orcas Island Community Band concert.
- After 10 p.m. Fireworks can be viewed from Waterfront Park.
