Variety of degrees awarded at San Juan CenterStory by Sharon Kivisto

John Jull utilized the college to earn a bachelor's degree from Washington State University. The WSU Distance Degree Program is facilitated through the WSU Learning Center, in partnership with Skagit Valley College. Debra Lancaster, WSU Learning Center Coordinator handed him his diploma. Nicholas Ahbel earned his high school diploma from Skagit Valley College. Four students - Inness Davis, Jessica Hall, Megan Connelly and Mary Patterson - earned associate degrees and high school diplomas. Nathaniel Herring, Anya Kruger, Christy Putney, and Erin Wondergem earned associate degrees. Putney, Wondergem and Connelly, a Phi Theta Kappa member, were honored with The Presidents Medal, recognizing outstanding academic achievement for maintaining a grade point average of 3.9 or above. According to Dr. Gary Tollefson, president of SVC, 943 students graduated this year from SVC - 331 males, 612 females. The oldest graduate was 67-years-old. The grade point average for all graduates was 3.23. | |

After the recessional, the graduates gathered with family and friends to celebrate.

Former Friday Harbor High School Principal Ralph Hahn was moved to tears seeing one of his former students earn her degree.
Jon Romey sang "Wake Up and Dream" accompanied by pianist Sonja Zarek.
Inness Davis, chosen as 2005 Graduation Class Speaker, "extended sincere gratitude for all of you for coming together to help us."
Colleen Clancy served as director for seven years. |
