Hundreds savor feast in Friday HarborPhotos by Matt Pranger and Sharon Kivisto posted 11/29/02
The American Legion, San Juan Island Grange, Soroptimists of Friday Harbor and the Kiwanis each donated $125 towards the event. Kerwin Johnson of Islanders Insurance donated $500 to underwrite the fourth annual dinner. When organizer Minnie Knych went to Market Place to purchase the food, she was pleasantly surprised when told owner Vern Howard was donating the 16 turkeys. | ||

Girl Scout Troop 1949 helped by clearing tables and keeping condiment bowls filled. Windermere supplied the coffee pot and television which was tuned to football games. Board games were available for entertainment. Several of the younger participants played Break the Ice and Jenga. Volunteers made sure older residents who needed transportation had rides to the dinner.
Volunteers dished up the turkey, stuffing, green beans, yams, and more.
Anita and Brad Welch enjoyed the traditional feast.
Playing games kept several of the younger guests busy.
Sally Eaton provided a bit of entertainment by playing a nose harp she purchased from Nick Heiting. He was visiting his parents for the holiday. Call him at 206.669.7606 if you are interested in purchasing the $1 harp. |
Charlie Lindenberg was one of many islanders partaking of the fourth annual community dinner.
Girl Scouts kept tables supplied.
Laura Concord enjoyed the pumpkin pie and its generous topping of whipped cream.
This Moose is being raffled to raise money for the local Dollars for Scholars program. |
