Oren and Peggy Combs' San Juan Brewing Company - Front Street Ale House - provided the drinks. Market Chef and Rocky Bay Cafe provided the food. Besides all of the dancing including the crowd favorite chicken dance, there were games to keep the crowd entertained. Couples caught sausages in cast iron pans. Cabbage relay races, playdough pretzel-making contests, and the blind-folded cake eating contest were highlights. Oktoberfest is continuing a tradition that started on October 17, 1810 in Munich, Germany after the wedding of Princess Theresa of Sachsen-Hildburghausen and Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria. The 40,000 party guests had such a good time that the event was repeated every year. Now Oktoberfest is celebrated all over the world as a "People’s Festival " or "Volkfest. " |
