George Myers soars to Eagle Scout rank

Adam Myers achieves Eagle Rank

posted 06/22/2006
Not many Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremonies have such a picturesque setting as the one held Saturday, June 17, 2006 for Adam Myers. His Eagle project included landscaping the backyard of the Family Resource Center on Market Street in Friday Harbor. Family, friends and fellow scouts gathered there under sunny skies to celebrate as Myers was presented scouting's highest award.

Coach Ledford shares thoughts of what comprises a significant life.

Scoutmaster David Harold leads the pledge of the Eagle Scout.

Cooky Gossom, her daughter, and Donna Tegnell watch the ceremonies.

Scoutmaster Burk Gossom shared memories of Myers when he joined the troop. "He was different than his brother George. His pants were perfectly creased. He kept 'talking into a microphone'. I asked him why. He said he was practicing to become a game show host."

Gossom said Myers did great at scouting. "He was the best leader we had at scout camp."

Friday Harbor Football Coach Richard Ledford gave a speech "A Significant Life". He said: It is not the earning of the Eagle Scout Rank that will make your life have significance. Earning that Eagle rank simply indicates that you have what it takes to earn the rank. It shows that you have what it takes to presevere, to remain steadfast toward a goal. Earning the Eagle rank is not an ending to anything. It is a great foundation upon which you can build the kind of life you want to build. It is the beginning of the rest of your life. Now is the time to let the qualities that were necessary to become an Eagle Scout become your thread to weave a significant life.

Island District Chair Mary Jo Brentari opened and closed the ceremony.

Scoutmasters David Harold and David Waldron participated in Adam's Court of Honor.

Adam shares a laugh with his step-father Jon Tegnell, and his Scoutmaster Burk Gossom.

Scoutmaster Burk Gossom pinned on the Eagle Award as Scoutmaster David Waldron looked on.

Adam thanked his parents, scoutmasters, Cooky Gossom, everyone who helped with the troop and his project, his coach, and friends.

Donna Tegnell, George, Adam and Jon Tegnell celebrate.
Both sons are now Eagle Scouts.
