Izakson back from the Persian Gulf

Joshua has just been promoted to the rank of Captain which will become effective in June. As well, he wears Air Force Jump Wings from his previous completion of freefall parachute training. posted 06/23/2006 Joshua also was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. As well, he wears Air Force Jump Wings from his previous completion of freefall parachute training. Joshua has been assigned to pilot the AWACS Sentry aircraft which is the premier air battle command and control aircraft. With only 32 AWACS in the entire Air Force fleet, receiving this pilot assignment was indeed an honor. He will join the 552nd Air Control Wing of the USAF Air Combat Command and be based at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Izakson training in Mississippi

Joshua is now training at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi. He is flying the Beech T-1A Jayhawk twin-engine jet. Upon completion of this phase, he will earn the aeronautical rating of pilot and receive his Air Force wings in June 2006. Lieutenant Izakson graduated the United States Air Force Academy in 2004. Izakson has also been awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal by his commanding officer for Meritorious Service he performed for the Crisis Action Team of the 62nd Airlift Wing while he was serving at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma. Izakson graduating from Air Force Academy

Izakson will be receiving a Bachelor of Science degree and is ranked in the top ten percent in his department with a 3.89 GPA. He has been awarded the Academy’s Academic Star seven times during his career and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. He also has been a Soaring Instructor Pilot for three years.
Before graduating, Joshua will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and will enter active duty. Having achieved a high ranking in the class of 2004, he received his first choice of flight school and will be reporting to Moody Air Force Base in Georgia to begin instruction on the new Air Force training aircraft, the T-6A Texan II. Izakson’s objective is to then fly the B-1 Bomber which will enable him to fulfill his goal of piloting the B-2 Stealth Bomber as well as obtaining his post graduate degree. Before reporting, Joshua will be on leave and will visit home and family on Orcas.

Joshua has a 3.8 GPA within his major and has been awarded the Academic Star five times in the last three years. After training on gliders in his first year, he was invited to be a Soaring Instructor Pilot and has trained scores of other cadets over the last two years. Following graduation next year, Joshua will attend flight school to begin training for his ultimate flying goal of being a B-2 Stealth Bomber pilot as well as obtaining a post graduate degree. |
