Izakson back from the Persian Gulf

Joshua Izakson, 1st Lt. USAF, of Orcas Island has returned from his deployment with the Air Force in the Persian Gulf. He serves with the 965th Airborne Air Control Squadron and flies the AWACS Sentry aircraft which is the premier air battle command and control aircraft. He is based at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.

Joshua has just been promoted to the rank of Captain which will become effective in June. As well, he wears Air Force Jump Wings from his previous completion of freefall parachute training.

Lieutenant Izakson graduated the United States Air Force Academy in 2004 and plans a full career in the Air Force. He is the son of Carmen and Dubi Izakson of Orcas Island.

Joshua Izakson of Orcas Island has graduated from Air Force Advanced Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi where he flew the Beech T-1A Jayhawk twin-engine jet. He received the aeronautical rating of Pilot and now proudly wears Air Force pilot wings.

Joshua also was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. As well, he wears Air Force Jump Wings from his previous completion of freefall parachute training.

Joshua has been assigned to pilot the AWACS Sentry aircraft which is the premier air battle command and control aircraft. With only 32 AWACS in the entire Air Force fleet, receiving this pilot assignment was indeed an honor. He will join the 552nd Air Control Wing of the USAF Air Combat Command and be based at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

Joshua Izakson, 2nd Lt., USAF of Orcas Island has graduated from primary pilot training at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia where he flew the T-6A Texan II aircraft. Due to his ranking in his flight class, he received his first choice of aircraft and base for his next phase of instruction, specialized flight training.

Joshua is now training at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi. He is flying the Beech T-1A Jayhawk twin-engine jet. Upon completion of this phase, he will earn the aeronautical rating of pilot and receive his Air Force wings in June 2006.

Izakson awarded Air Force Achievement Medal

2nd Lt. Joshua Izakson, USAF of Orcas Island has successfully completed his solo flight in a T-6A Texan II aircraft. This is a major milestone in his Air Force pilot training at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia. His ultimate goal is to command a B-2 bomber.

Izakson has also been awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal by his commanding officer for Meritorious Service he performed for the Crisis Action Team of the 62nd Airlift Wing while he was serving at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma.

He is a 2004 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy where he was presented his diploma by President George W. Bush

Joshua Izakson of Orcas Island, a first class cadet Major at the United States Air Force Academy, will be graduating in Colorado Springs on June 2, 2004. The President of the United States, George Bush, will be the graduation speaker.

Izakson will be receiving a Bachelor of Science degree and is ranked in the top ten percent in his department with a 3.89 GPA. He has been awarded the Academy’s Academic Star seven times during his career and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. He also has been a Soaring Instructor Pilot for three years.

Before graduating, Joshua will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and will enter active duty. Having achieved a high ranking in the class of 2004, he received his first choice of flight school and will be reporting to Moody Air Force Base in Georgia to begin instruction on the new Air Force training aircraft, the T-6A Texan II. Izakson’s objective is to then fly the B-1 Bomber which will enable him to fulfill his goal of piloting the B-2 Stealth Bomber as well as obtaining his post graduate degree.

Before reporting, Joshua will be on leave and will visit home and family on Orcas.

Joshua Izakson of Orcas Island is now a First Class Cadet (senior year) at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He has just been promoted to the rank of Captain and serves as a Team Controller in the Wing Operations Center as well as an Element Leader in his squadron.

Joshua has a 3.8 GPA within his major and has been awarded the Academic Star five times in the last three years. After training on gliders in his first year, he was invited to be a Soaring Instructor Pilot and has trained scores of other cadets over the last two years. Following graduation next year, Joshua will attend flight school to begin training for his ultimate flying goal of being a B-2 Stealth Bomber pilot as well as obtaining a post graduate degree.
