The reader responded to see what would happen. This is the second email they received.

Goodday Once Again,
Many thanks for your swift response on that, also i am very gateful to hear back from you and am satisfied with all what you said,so without stressing you i will make all neccessarily arrangement with my shipping company who will come over for the shipping and clearing of the (item advertised for $425) at your location and i will instruct my associate who is owing me sum of $3425.00 to send you the payment and once you received and cashed the cheque,i will want you to deduct your own $2900.00 for your (item) and use $100 for compesating you and for the stress you will go through in transfering the rest of the $3900 to the shipping Company via western union, because that will covers shipping and clearing of the (item) at yo! ur location and paper work.

I will be looking forward to hearing from you with your full name and address on where the cheque will be mail to.

Many thanks and God bless Best Regard john simth

The crook is hoping the victim will take them up on the offer. The crook sends a money order (or check) for an amount hundreds or thousands of dollars above the price of the item. The money order is a forgery. People who are taken by the scam, don't find out about the forgery until after they've deposited the check and sent money to the crook. Eventually the bank realizes the check deposited was a forgery and the victim has to make good on the deposit.

To avoid this problem, don't reply to offers which are "too good to be true" or don't include your email address in your classified ad.

If you receive one of the scam email offers, report it to FBI Internet Fraud Complaint Center
