Island Star is born

posted 05/28/02
Island Star Equestrian Center is forming on Orcas Island. A dream of Triana Elan's for "42 of her 45 years on the planet," the center will provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to learn about and benefit from horsemanship.

Triana treats Don, the Belgian draft horse, to a carrot while Emily Post VanderBurg of Lopez Island holds the Best Farm Animal Trophy

Some of the horses to be used in the center were rescued by Elan from slaughter. Don, a Belgian draft horse, participated in the annual Pet Parade Saturday, May 25 in Eastsound. He will be one of the schooling horses.

Island Star Equestrian Center is non-profit and a 501(c)(3) has been applied for. The board of directors includes:

  • Triana Elan, executive director
  • Karin Becker, vice president
  • Barb Griffin, secretary/treasurer
  • John Boyer
  • Christine Rogers
  • Jonathan Piff
